Her wedges are to DIE for! I am in love with that POP of blue color that they add to her ensemble. It definitely compliments the floral patterned blouse and white skirt. She looks very beautiful and chic!
Check out my trendy blog!

Great shot Scott. Great to have some more dynamic shots. It is always more difficult to capture the moment right when in motion.

I wish I looked this pretty when my clothes are inflated.
September 15, 2011 at 4:36 pm
How lovely! The shoes are my favorite, I’ve been looking everywhere for a simple summer wedge. Tant pis. Here comes fall.
September 15, 2011 at 4:43 pm
this is fun, comparing both shots
September 15, 2011 at 4:50 pm
disagree w/ the wedges – throws the whole perception of mass and the center of mass off kilter. makes it all look unbalanced. not a specific problem to her, but a general flaw to all wedges. the initial first glance always gives off a sense of large chunks of wood (which they, in essence, are), or worse, hooves.
September 15, 2011 at 4:52 pm
Wow! Love this outfit!
Great shoes :)
September 15, 2011 at 4:54 pm
Beautiful shot, wonderful light. I like your thoughts on portraits vs. candid street photography. I’ve also been experimenting with both, and the way that movement changes the narrative the photographer can create. So interesting.

Beautiful shots. Wonderful light. I like your comments about candid shots vs. portraits. I’ve also been experimenting with both recently, and the different kinds of narratives you can create with each. So interesting.
September 15, 2011 at 5:14 pm
So true! I just started a blog and have been playing around with different styles of shooting – and making my boyfriend do the work too. Having Paris as your backdrop doesn’t hurt as well ;)
September 15, 2011 at 5:20 pm
Absolutely loving these little narrations!
I love the shirt, skirt but not the shoes, that is why I was never fond of wedges, they are unsophisticated from the sideway look
September 15, 2011 at 5:36 pm
I totally agree, each shot is so different and yet both are SO amazing and inspiring. beautiful clothes and beautiful lady!
September 15, 2011 at 5:39 pm
First photo looks like her legs are about to buckle under her. Must say, not really enjoying these fashion week women who look like their legs are bound in tight skirts and they can’t walk properly due to heel height… to me, the beauty of movement can only be expressed through freedom. Bad posture is not beautiful. That said, se still manages to smile, and has a lovely face.

Yes, I know that you are a Lartigue fan, as am I–we often forget the force of movement whether it be lui or Avedon or you…
September 15, 2011 at 5:43 pm
I love that it’s still so nice in ny! With a little bit of wind to spice things up!
September 15, 2011 at 5:49 pm
I LOVE that outfit, flawless!
September 15, 2011 at 5:52 pm
Love that second shot ‘clothes in motion’, especially the billowing in her blouse. Those wedges are brilliant!
September 15, 2011 at 5:54 pm
i can not help but wonder what shots 3 and 4 might look like.
a stationary pose perhaps.

A good interior or painting or building or whatever is – besides everything else- always in balance. There is no balance here. The beautiful shoes are too heavy with the beautiful blouse. Such a pity.
Greetings from Amsterdam.

Ohhh, this skirt is beautiful! I love it! ;P

September 15, 2011 at 6:58 pm
I couldn’t agree more. It’s one reason I love shooting (and seeing) candids.
September 15, 2011 at 7:05 pm
i dunno. i agree, she’s lovely. the pieces are all great separately but i don’t think that they go together at all. but you know, if you work it right (with bright attitude) you can sell a poorly made trashbag dress.
September 15, 2011 at 7:07 pm
Agreed. The first shot is fine, but that breeze caught in the blouse and the movement of the fabric make the second one really special.

I love the movement and the energy and she is totally radiant! Great shot in the wind.
September 15, 2011 at 7:24 pm
The blue wedges are a nice touch. She is also a classic beauty!

wow!!!! LINDA DE VIVER!!!!
great pic!!! i loved it!!!!
September 15, 2011 at 8:19 pm
Most of the time, we credit the subject but an eye for noticing the beauty in the simplest movement raises the bar!
.. I love that back shot .. even if it were be be sketched in minimal lines in charcoal :)

O’lee cow! She’s gorgeous! Hey Marina, if you ever want to go out with an English teacher maybe we could make it happen… I teach you about Helen of Troy; you teach me your phone number?! Whaddya saaaay?
September 15, 2011 at 10:58 pm
i love her wedges! because of the beige in the front it ALMOST gives an illusion of open toes
September 15, 2011 at 11:08 pm
September 15, 2011 at 11:35 pm
Love your comments Scott, they add a lot to the beauty of your photos rather than detract from them. Reading your thoughts helps the rest of us learn how to look well at the world and dress well in it.
September 15, 2011 at 11:45 pm
She looks perfect. i like so the these shoes and this white skirt.
perfect for her.
As a fellow photographer, I could not agree with you more!
September 16, 2011 at 12:04 am

September 16, 2011 at 12:13 am
Unbalanced silhouette(especially her blue wedges shoes ) is make her look incredible.

September 16, 2011 at 1:15 am
WHO MAKES HER BLUE WEDGES???
September 16, 2011 at 1:42 am
Good posture is the key element in every appearance, I think. If you can’t stand up straight, you should re-concider your outfit :)
September 16, 2011 at 1:47 am
I love this… in no small part because her look reflects that same “denial of summer being over” that I am currently experiencing, in both feeling and in dress!
September 16, 2011 at 2:56 am
I luv the wedges !!! Plus she looks so elegant …
September 16, 2011 at 3:28 am
Wow! Amazing shots!
And she is so beautiful :)

She looks fantastic until you get to those ugly clodhopper shoes. Not only ugly but not functional. I am in awe at her capacity to actually walk in them.
September 16, 2011 at 5:45 am
Hi, I like her shoes. Frances http://www.theafternoontea.it

September 16, 2011 at 7:26 am
I’m like it and very good idea
September 16, 2011 at 7:34 am
I totally agree. I much prefer candid shots. I like to capture life and movement. It is so much more interesting than a posed shot.
September 16, 2011 at 7:51 am
I so appreciate your comments, which really shine a light on details that I probably would overlook. I like to dissect a bella figure, to figure out what exactly is so attractive, especially when the person is neither young nor svelte, yet great-looking overall. Pictures of people with beautiful bodies are too easy; they make even burlap bags look fabulous, so there’s little to learn.
However, I don’t always get past looks that I’m not fond of to see the one detail or two that could work for me. You really point those out well.
I also really enjoy the Glamourai for her sharp take on DIY. So much more interesting than somebody who just goes out and buys couture for the label.
September 16, 2011 at 7:53 am
Beautiful shots as always!
And you are so right about the shapes of clothes…. I always dress for the silhouette. These dainty curves are perfect on the petite Marina. Pip xx
September 16, 2011 at 8:02 am
I’m like it and very good idea next time I follow you thank you
September 16, 2011 at 8:36 am
I agree, when one takes pictures of people in motion the outcome is very different from the ones where people are posing, standing. I admire the beauty of both kinds of pictures, but I prefer the former, these often are more spontaneous, easy going and can turn out in all kinds of surprising ways and I like that.
September 16, 2011 at 10:22 am
That *is* a beautiful shot. It’s pictures like that that make me want to take up photography. (Maybe after a decade or so I’d start getting respectable photos!)
September 16, 2011 at 12:10 pm
Beyond stunning. Love every.single. thing.

September 16, 2011 at 3:04 pm
I love how her silk (?) top billows out. There’s a real feeling of movement there…and it’s a look that’s only for the very confident. I’m not sure all women would go for this look. But it’s fresh especially when it’s paired with a white ruffled skirt, which is totally breaking the rules because it’s past Labor Day and she’s wearing something that’s looks like it’s white cotton or twill, a summerweight fiber. Go girl go!

1. I love photos where people are walking
2. She is very pretty
3. Her shoes… wow!
September 16, 2011 at 6:55 pm
I preffer the second one much more… And not because I don’t think the first one is beautiful, but in the second you managed to capture that rare elegant “slouch”, that only true ladies posses…
September 16, 2011 at 8:24 pm
Gorgeous! But those wedgies make my bunion ache…oh to be young(er).

Wonderful this skirt with ruffle bottom, cut a long and complicated because it is only suitable for thin women, the use of esparto shoes belt and leg shortened this long skirt a stiletto would have been better

The pop of blue is FABULOUS on those wedges. Love that fact that wedges seem to transcend timeless fashion.

This is one of the first of your posts I ever saw when I originally started following the Sartorialist. It has stuck in my mind since then, and I finally did my own clothes-in-motion work. Thank you for being a constant source of inspiration. :)
