Oh, you’re killing me! First, I couldn’t be in NY for fashion week and now this! Seriously, though, I’m a huge fan of Steichen and would love to see James show if I were there. Well done James!
I so love the photo here. What an intense look ! It seems he is watching us, not to say that he is super elegant ! I was about to write, this guy really looks like Gary Cooper but HE IS Gary Cooper…that explains the intensity of the look and the attitude :D. I wish I could have this photo in my room…
I used to have a postcard of this photo of Gary Cooper hanging in my closet when I was in my 20s. I think I just may print this out and hang it anew! He’s still a dreamboat. Will try to make the exhibit.
Aaah, what a photo! It’s the gorgeous guy that Irene, the designer of beautiful suits, jumped out a window for when she knew she could never have him. (sometimes the real Hollywood can be wilder than fiction)
Great photo of Cooper. Men like Cary Grant and Clark Gable often got more attention, but Gary Cooper was, in an understated way, one of Hollywood’s best dressed men.
I don’t think that I have ever seen a photo where Gary Cooper looked so handsome. What is so amazing is with the clothes that he is wearing if he walked by you on the street your reaction would probably be “What a well dressed good looking guy”.
Gary Cooper is one of my fabourite classic leading man, Gregory Peck was also a great one! Both kind of unfarely shadowed by Cary Grant, which, obviously was also… sigh…
Gary Cooper: a classic men’s style icon. It’s good to appreciate the style of other classic gentlemen other than Cary Grant (who is also a great style icon, but he is everywhere!) http://www.delavegatailors.com
Gary Cooper… sexiest man not alive…
Seriously though… has nothing to do with the clothes, it’s his naturally laid-back attitude. Like, as if he was roping a cow one day and found himself roped into a suit.
At least, that’s what Clara Bow saw… !
Oh goodness gracious, that is one handsome man. The stare into the cameras lens makes me blush. Gary Cooper knew how to wear a suit. Absolute perfection!
What an incredible photograph and incredibly beautiful man! An era of pure style and grace. Hope to check the exhibition out. Thanks you for enlightening us…
I went to this last night and really loved the prints. I’ll post my thoughts on my blog Monday, but in short, Edward Steichen is one of the best photographers of the last century. To see his works in print is important if you love photography. You will be blown away. Seeing actual prints is quite a moving experience, especially since now we only really see photographs on the Internet. Internet and print are completely different mediums!
I have had this very picture hanging on my bathroom mirror for years!
It would make my boyfriends jealous, not knowing who he was. He is certainly a hard act to follow! His elegance is timeless.

Come on this just isnt fair :D
Gary cooper was at the front of the queue when they were handing out stunning genes
It doesnt hurt that the suit and shirt are absolute perfection too (love those collars)
I’m a red blooded heterosexual male but even i can appreciate that this was one startlingly gorgeous guy
Anyone see him in ‘Morocco’ ?
I think ‘stunningly beautiful man’ was a term coined for Cooper in this movie
