I like looking at all these old pictures, look at the way people used to be, their clothes, their shoes, their hair styles. It reminds me that the people in the photos were young once, and it makes me glad to take pictures, capture the present and wonder what others will think of it, not just now, but many years from now.

I am also such a fan of these vintage photos especially the fact that a lot of the scenarios are just everyday life.

August 22, 2011 at 12:57 am
I love how he’s wearing the boots…it’s like he either just finished doing something and smoking a pipe reflecting or he’s about to start doing something and is smoking the pipe to relax a little beforehand……great pic

I love this photograph. He appears to be a writer/outdoorsman, contemplating his next novel while chopping wood. These are the kinds of men I adore, and the times and the styles were so conducive to a spirit of rugged manliness. Thank you for posting this!

This looks freakishly like me at profile down to the haircut and the pipe; the only discernible difference is that his sideburns are a bit wider than mine. Do you have more pictures? I actually posted this as my Facebook profile photo as an experiment and even my own father thought it was me.
Also, to join the chorus, does anyone know what type of boots those are? I’ve been trying to find out and it’s been driving me crazy. I think they might be considered a vintage form of lace-up snake boots, but I’m not sure if that’s the correct term.
November 14, 2012 at 4:38 pm
Eureka! At first, I thought the boots were probably knee-high “packer boots” though on second look at the heel, they’re more likely “logger boots.” They were quite popular and very well suited for the terrain out west and resistant to snake bites; Chippewa and Redwing are companies that manufactured both.
