I am sure arithmetically there is a way to figure out what month it is by knowing that Saturdays were the 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th. I am fascinated by the tolerance of formal office wear in what may have sweltering offices in the heat of summers past. That said, I could never look so comfortable in a suit.
There is an elegance and matter-of-factness of a generation that dressed this way for work and play that is supremely enviable. There was also a day and time when those in photographic pose were just shy of stilted and contrived; enough to allow their soul and personality to be equal subjects.

First day on job, or last ?
Movie still, corporate portrait or real life?
the hard line of the industrial window washer box and glum vacant utility of office furnishings in the glowing light?
The handsome softness of the man in his dapper attire in the stark enviornment ?
My questions about a man and a place, a month in 1938.

at the dawn of the major events that would schock and rattle the 21st century, this is a contemplative, almost poetic picture that keeps you fascinated. what a trouvaille!!

Lets see. Pearl harbor was in 1940, i think. Two more years. But Europe was going at it already in 38. Am I off by a year? Can’t think. Not the nicest time, anyhow. Must have been scary.

Mad Men’s Kenneth Cosgrove if the show took place in the 40′s methinks
