i love that you did it too!
oh the muted colours are brilliant arent they?
December 20, 2007 at 9:44 am
Well she looks warm. :) But yeah, I love the combination of her coat and dress, which are both the perfect length. And the way she fits in perfectly with the background. Why is it that in this photo and the previous one the person is looking away from the camera? It looks quite cool but I can’t imagine them doing it of their own accord.

Nice colours here, Sart. This young lady’s sweater coat looks very comfortable and toasty. I like the Snow Queen look.

She looks very warm and cosy. The color palette is quite soothing. And what a nice bag!
However, what I like most of this picture is the architectural background. So well chosen!

I like this a lot.

Great shot. She shows a great sense of proportion and texture, which is interesting in the absence of color.I’m not a fan of most pieces of this outfit (save the coat of course) but it’s the combination that makes it work. (whole greater than the sum of its parts kinda thing)
Though, I can’t help but be annoyed that she’s looking at her blackberry!
I like her sweater…it’s colour against the white. Beautiful hands.
December 20, 2007 at 10:28 am
Gorgeous and serene. I’m coveting her sweater coat, and wondering how she keeps off-white boots looking so nice…
December 20, 2007 at 10:45 am
A beautifully composed shot, and her outfit is lovely. What a gorgeous coat–alas, I’m too short to wear such a garment! I also love how the colour of her hair goes with the earth tones in her outfit, including the bit of brown shirt sleeve visible under the sleeves of the coat.
One question, though: are some people just adept at keeping white boots clean?! These look brand new. If I wore them, they’d have some kind of dirt on them within 1/2 an hour.
December 20, 2007 at 11:05 am
Very elegant lengths/cuts, and very serene look overall.
I agree with the other posters, this looks really warm. I also agree that I don’t think I could ever keep white boots clean–I can’t keep black boots clean!
December 20, 2007 at 11:41 am
The picture is perfect. Love the collors too.
December 20, 2007 at 12:34 pm
The coat is a fantastic piece! The shawl collar and double breasted closure is so nice. It looks like a nice fuzzy blend of fibers too–maybe some mohair or alpaca in there?
I’m pleased to see so many gorgeous knits lately!

To anon 10:45 and 11:05 –
I am the queen of somehow managing to mess up a wonderful brand-new thing within the first five minutes of using/wearing it, so I say this with some level of authority: Vectra spray (http://www.vectraspray.com/).
Best stain repellent I’ve ever found. I’ve used it on both my white pea coat and my white pants between every cleaning and they still look great – as opposed to when I used Scotch Guard, which itself stained the coat (and which thankfully came out, after a very expensive dry cleaning). I’ve also used it on many pairs of shoes and again, works great. You’ll never be able to keep them looking absolutely pristine, but you can keep them looking lovely longer. The spray helps immensely with stains and smudges and dirt build-up.
Scratches from tripping while going up stairs or walking through a parking lot? That’s another matter.

Her coat is so beautiful!

That is a great tip, Leah. Many thanks! Anon 10:45

she looks amazing, everything is lovely… except her knit hat, i don’t like it colour and texture. random choice.
December 20, 2007 at 1:57 pm
u know what? i like her. and i like how her sweater coat sort of looks like a fur at first.
December 20, 2007 at 3:22 pm
lovely shot. very elegant. very winter appropriate.
December 20, 2007 at 4:40 pm
She is quite inspiring …….she isn’t trendy or obviously fashiony at all but she is so utterly stylish and so appropriately dressed. I always thing that appropriateness is a large part of being stylish.

Very well done.. Monochromatic colors doesn’t have have to be flat and boring..
I just noticed, both subjects (this one and the one in super color performance) are both looking down..
December 20, 2007 at 10:41 pm
yay! no fur…see? it is easy to be warm and look good without putting a creature through a life of torment. just add a designer bag and crackberry and whalha! your done.
i like that hat, wispy lavender looks good with all of those brown and cream tones. not random at all, although if she turned 90 degrees i might have a different opinion if that blue thing on the hat was a crocheted flower. now that would do it in.
and the setting and photography help dont they?

I wonder if that sweater coat is vintage? It has an arts-and-crafts look. The bag is classically understated; this is another commentary on layering and on hues. The look is soft and natural. The hat is kind of sporty, but that’s OK, really becaues I actually believe it is doing the job of keeping her warm. I am surprised that she is not wearing gloves, though.

Don´t like this pic at all.Everything she is wearing looks old and weary. Her bag too looks odd with all the rest of the outfit. Somehow I could imagine her in one of those Disney´s multiple films.
December 21, 2007 at 1:02 am
I only like the purse. although she is someone I could just roll into bed with. so cozy.
December 21, 2007 at 2:41 am
nice photo, lovely outfit
December 21, 2007 at 5:27 am
love that!, def. a fav. she´s like a 70s mia farrow hippie but upper class and ladylike. it´s the mix with good materials. is that a fau fur skirt, mocka, wool or something? it´s great altogether, great bag. (and amazing coat, and hair) and the cap! that´s the sugar on top. :) to me this is so much more class than the manhattan glitzy types.

The emphatic spots of black make a nice little pyramid: cuffs, collar, eyes, and back to the blackberry.
December 21, 2007 at 11:57 am
i love the fact that the colours in the background complement the outfit. well shot!
December 21, 2007 at 12:12 pm
It’s weird that she looks like a fancy hippie, yet is completely enthralled by her Blackberry. Very interesting juxtaposition.

the famous ‘ton sur ton’
December 21, 2007 at 1:08 pm
Gorgeous coat, like a warm alpaca blanket! And the Miu Miu bag is chic, but understated.
December 21, 2007 at 3:17 pm
so, who’s the monochromist here? the lady or the eye? the cardigan coat is fantastic and so is the skirt from what i can see. the posture adds even more flow with its lines, and the hat blends nicely in the background. i am not convinced by the boots, but maybe just because they appear trendier than the rest of the ensemble, which is classic in its own way. yes, a wonderful photo.
December 21, 2007 at 7:04 pm
Love the mohair sweater coat! It makes me wonder if she knitted it…
December 22, 2007 at 3:01 am
Your photography is so skillful, talented, both! And yes, this second photo is a lovely example of your attention to detail, capturing someone ELSE’s attention to detail. I love seeing fashion through your eyes!
December 22, 2007 at 9:48 am
Very cute. I like it except the boots – too precious. I also agree with whomever said a flower on the had would do the outfit in. I just need to add though that whomever made the comment about one not needing fur when one has a giant sweater…ACK! You have clearly never lived anywhere near the north…Come and join me in -50. ;-) (I actually wear down, not fur, but have no problem with people wearing fur in some environments. Fur was very popular when my mother was young and I remember putting on her fur coat when I was a child. Oh so warm and wind resisting…)

A little bit of Chloe, a little bit of Missoni. One of the best vintage looks!
