Love this especially the gloves – really nice splash of colour. I do agree with simplyolive though about the skirt – a more substantial winter fabric would have been much better.
I like the poncho-jacket thing a lot. I’m not sure it would work on a petite person like me, however. That bag is enormous. Are those really practical to carry around?
And pink and orange has long been a favourite combo of mine, for both clothes and roses!
Okay, people… I think that she obviously has personality and good looks and the confidence to wear whatever she wants. She looks lovely and she looks like she feels beautiful as well.
I totally didn’t notice the orange thumb on the gloves until I looked at the photos full-sized. Very cool but if she was wearing something other than white or black they would look very scary.
The bag is by Anna Corinna, and it is popular, so easy to find. Do a google search for it — LOTS of online stores carry them. Shopbop, Revolve . . . You might even find one on Bluefly! As purses go, they’re affordable!
To wear palettes, Some comments: I’d never say never to color palettes. Think Prada, the color provocateur per excellence. Jill Sander (avant-garde use of color) has been doing this combo (orange and pink) for while now. SS08: the salmon with magenta…Genious!
Palettes are not only about color but the proportion of the color, Missoni masters color proportion as key element.
Love it all! I am now searching for those gloves! Love the poncho/jacket, and I love the filminess of the skirt-nice contrast. It works.
This outfit is a great mix of sophisticated and fun, modern and quirky. So good!
And yes, maybe this looks best on her b/c she’s her, but isn’t that true of everyone on this blog? They’ve all got personal style. If they look good, we can imitate or emulate but we can’t ever replicate, and unless we’re they’re identical twin, we shouldn’t bother.
Thanks Sart! This shot inspires me in my daily winter wear around Boston.
Sweet. I agree with an earlier comment on the skirt – I kinda like the contrast of it against the heaviness of her wintery black bag/tights/shoes and poncho. And the gloves, well, they’re just adorable.
Happy holidays, Sart! And congrats on your gallery show! I wish I could see it!
love it – but i can’t help to think that those gloves look uncomfortably small; then i’m brought to think about the absurdity inherent in fashion, and then i brought full circle into the thought of – who gives a care anyway? isn’t that that fashion is all about?
I am almost always positive with my blog comments but I just feel that nothing works here. the colors clash and worse, I feel the clothes and especially the shoes are nice but just wrong for this person. I think the bag is also just a bit too much.
the gloves are neoprene so they look very skin tight, but stretch so are probably comfy. I think the idea’s she’s got going on here are fantastic!
-Would have been over-the-moon if there was some play with texture and fit. Big bag, baggy poncho/hoodie, baggy sleeves, baggy skirt. . . its too much for me. Maybe a large-knit dark purple miniskirt/long sweater-dress instead of baggy sweat shirt and skirt. or brave it with bare arms to accentuate the coat? Really, very cute though, great job!
This is one of those “I’d never wear that” outfits, but I love it. It’s adorable. If it were me though thinking for myself though I’d think: skirt too thin, jacket not sufficiently warm, gloves too short, need a hat, (great bag :)). But then I’m old.
Love the Alexander Wang cape, hate the Anna Corinna bag. Seriously, every third girl in Manhattan carries one of these bags…there is nothing interesting about it.
I love this look so much. It’s actually gotta be in my top 5 of Sart shots. Very curious to know if she achieves this most days. But I think that would be almost impossible cuz it’s so uniquely fantastic…each piece, plus the dynamic combination.
one of my favorite collections ever is fall ’04 burberry prorsum, where several of the outfits were set off with bright blue, lime green, or purple gloves. beautiful.
Eeerr, no. Nice girl, shoes, bad, bag – you see these everywhere! It’s trying too hard to do a “fashion” look without an innate sense of style…the gloves, “haha”, next? Too loosey, no structure. This could maybe work on a better groomed girl, better posture, some make-up…nothing stands against the looseness of the clothes – baggy baggy baggy=boring.
Not only she is she pretty and stylish, she looks genuinely nice too. I think it’s the colorful gloves that make her seem more approachable. I have this bag and I love it. Never use the short handles like she’s doing though, because I usually have so much stuff in it that it would hurt that way. Maybe she’s just doing it for the picture ?
Wow! This is the cutest ever! I don’t understand how ANYONE could quarrel with her look and her choices–it seems that the commenters are disturbed that she isn’t more conventional. Or they’re jealous. She’s beautiful, natural, stylish but not contrived. Playful, even, yet elegant. She’s warm, she’s not smoking a cigarette, what more can they ask?
Love the splash of color! Fucsia and orange great combination! I like the white skirt because it breaks the blackness, but is still neutral so it doesn’t take away the attention from the gloves.. I like her boots too.
Especially you, Santa Sart, and the lovely Mrs. Sart and your darling little elves!
Noelani, I hope you come back to read more comments because I’ve a question: are the sleeves part of the cape or separate sweater peaking through? Wouldn’t it be cool if they were detachables? It’s all fleece?
I love this, I think the bright gloves make the whole outfit, popping out of a monochrome palette of black and white. It’s the small details like these that make you stop and look twice… I don’t mind the flimsy skirt either, it’s a nice contrast from the thick/heavy coat.
looks great! i disagree with those that don’t love the skirt.. i think a black skirt would have made the gloves match too much… she doesn’t want to look like a mime ya know?
i love how she has no make-up on… and those gloves actually color up her face. and such simple hair style, too. she pays full respect to those gloves :)
i think if the skirt was black, that would be too “done”. maybe dark grey would have worked better…
Love the unusual gloves and the way the white skirt breaks up the heavy black; I adore her fresh face. I can’t believe there are people who would find fault with this! Chiding her for not wearing more make-up? People’s expectations of women on here are so nuts.
Love the gloves and her hair! I don’t think her outfit would have looked half as good were it not for her beautiful platinum blonde hair and those brightly colored gloves. It really makes everything pop.
Lovely. Great bag! The pink is a nice touch, but the gloves seem a bit small and short. The white skirt seems a bit lightweight for the rest of the ensemble but I guess the tights are keeping her warm enough. Her overall look: charming!
Her outfit is so effortlessly chic. The poncho has to be my favorite piece of the outfit. The cloth looks comfortable. The touch of color with her gloves is what makes her especially stand out.
To desertwind, I am not Noelani, but the sleeves are not part of the cape…it is Alexander Wang and was styled with leather gloves for his fall collection…it is a cape with arm slits.
