an unusual dress style with the high collar, like her bracelets and bags
August 3, 2011 at 3:47 pm
The accessories are great, but the dress could totally live on its own, its so cool!
August 3, 2011 at 3:48 pm
What a beautiful, simple dress on an equally beautiful model. There is something about no-frills white that is always appealing. (Actually, any color – without competing colors or hues, works.)
If NY is facing the same heat wave as much of the rest of the USA, then she chose well to wear all white on Crosby Street!

Missed your B&W pics. That’s a gorgeous dress and the silver accessories just compliments the plainness of the dress perfectly. Also the safety pin adds a really nice detail and a touch of personality.

I love this dress, it looks so comfy! Also love all of her accessories, looks perfect!

she looks so effortless, I love the linen and flats.
August 3, 2011 at 4:22 pm
Beautiful black and white–captures a fortuitous symmetry and casts a powerful appeal on the subject. I love her jewelry.
August 3, 2011 at 4:23 pm
so chic. effortless. beautiful. LOVE HER. on fire, get it girl.
August 3, 2011 at 4:50 pm
what?! unexpectedly cool. love the safety pin at the neck… details
August 3, 2011 at 5:00 pm
Does she have something wrapped around her neck and secured with a big safety pin?? Not sure about that. I love her jewellery, though.

This is what I want to dress like when I grow up. Oh wait, I am grown up.
August 3, 2011 at 5:31 pm
I love this. So intriguing.
August 3, 2011 at 5:50 pm
I have to admit that I do not really like the neck part of the dress, but I like the simplicity of the whole look, it fits the composition. This is a truly beautiful picture, and again the black and white is perfect for this picture.

That’s such a simple and confy dress, and plus it’s white, a color highly used in summer. I don’t like the all-white look, it looks like the candyman or whatever.. But this is ok, although I don’t understand why Scott picked this look.

Awesome photo – I especially love the black and white. It makes everything look so vintage!

What a SICK look. Tender as the night is long…
August 3, 2011 at 6:48 pm
Glad you posted this in B&W; it seems to give the picture more deepth.
Loving her bangles & shades; but not the dress so much, it just looks like an ill fitting sack.

I really, really like this look with the white cotton , the jewelry, ballet flats. But there’s something about it thatt’s maybe a little too covered up and it makes it look religious. Maybe sandals would make a difference, loose hair, even shorter sleeves?
August 3, 2011 at 7:27 pm
Photo is great. Accessories are great. Dress is, well, in dire need of ironing and are those Dr. Scholl’s to go flats? My mother would scold me for leaving the house in that dress.
August 3, 2011 at 7:37 pm
i liked it y so simple!
August 3, 2011 at 7:52 pm
Looks like an ordinary collar that she pinned to look special. Very creative, and it takes your eye right up to her gorgeous face.

Soft and beautifull! so simple! I really like.

so I have this dress, or a very similar version of it. I have owned it for years, and I wear it every summer. Several summers ago, I was in Provincetown, MA. A man stopped me and said, “if I were a woman, I’d wear that dress all the time.” Which was just about the best compliment ever.

Goddamn! The courage to wear a sack of a dress, and then the audacity to totally pull it off. I’ll have whatever she’s having…
August 4, 2011 at 11:13 am
Hell Yeah! That’s my good friend Liz, who is, in my opinion, one of the most stylish women in NYC…she is a designer and has a gorgeous line of men’s ties called Jaspare…Love my girl!!!
August 4, 2011 at 11:28 am
The dress looks sloppy and misshapen.
August 4, 2011 at 3:38 pm
From the hips down, not so great. Fabulous from the hips up!
August 4, 2011 at 4:04 pm
Great summer look, minus the neck piece.
August 4, 2011 at 4:58 pm
I love the linen texture of the dress, and I absolutely love high necklines. They are really quite an established trend at this point, and a good one. Everything looks twice as good buttoned to the very top. The neck pin just takes that up a notch, and I thank the Sartorialist for the great idea. I can’t wait to try this. It makes it look like a mandarin collar but better! Lovely all around, and you can’t beat black and white for sophistication. This blog is always inspiring and giving ideas. With the never anding heat wave I REALLY need that. Keep the wonderful work coming!
August 4, 2011 at 5:01 pm
BTW..Linen is supposed to be wrinkled like that. Its been worn so for centuries. Suits, coats, shirts.. everything. Obviously some people don’t know that, so I thought Id explain.
August 4, 2011 at 8:32 pm
oh dear. i adore this dress!
August 4, 2011 at 9:00 pm
the dress is really cool!
August 4, 2011 at 11:25 pm
Beautiful. Wish I knew where I could get that dress. I’d love to have several in different colors, would make my week so much easier and more stylish!

I. Need. A. Dress. Like. That.
August 7, 2011 at 2:14 pm
I love how the dress stays just this side of a sack. Somehow!
August 7, 2011 at 9:07 pm
WOW. She’s so sexy without any skin showing, hair scraped back, eyes hidden…. its all about what’s underneath the plain linen. This kind of understated, minimalist style highlights the skin, the face, the beauty of the wearer. By the way, this look would be nothing without the chunky jewellery catching the light.
August 7, 2011 at 9:15 pm
You can buy a dress like this from an NY designer called Pip-Squeak Chapeau. She does stunningly beautiful, simple, linen womenswear. This link shows the dress in black, but they used to stock it in white and I’m sure you could request it.
August 8, 2011 at 8:09 pm
I have been making and wearing these dresses for over twenty years. Maybe thirty years. I even design the hatpins I wear through the collars to stand it up. Lovely picture but it should be me wearing it. I knew it would happen eventually….
August 8, 2011 at 10:47 pm
Where can I get a dress like that? She is gorgeous!
I recently came back from Paris and saw many women who dressed simply, but added a little something special to their outfit and made it so interesting!
I am addicted to your art and look forward to it everyday!
Love from Canada!!
August 10, 2011 at 11:22 am
I also adore her dress. The utter simplicity of it is just a knockout.
August 11, 2011 at 6:49 am
WOW! Love this! Especially in black and white!
