A little Velvet Goldmine / Misshapes…but still kinda cool. Truthfully, I think more men should wear eyeliner / kohl. On the right guy it can be dramatic in a good way.
The brown, lilac, and hint of mossy green are an inspiring color combination that would seem more appropriate for easter. However, here the color combination is made dark and edgy. (P.S. I wish I could wear eye liner like that)
I like it. What I especially like is that he plays with gender with his eye makeup, hat, and clavicle cleavage (if you will). He comes off as masculine despite the “feminine” touches. And people say you don’t highlight men who play with gendered clothing, Sart.
So vastly different from the boys of my hometown (smalltown Ontario), clad identically in enormous hooded sweatshirts and dangerously low embellished jeans. Reminds me of why I adore the diversity of my new home, Montreal. This boy is beautiful!
Love how the clavicle sets of the flimsiness of the t-shirt at the same time as the angular shapes of his face and jacket collar. Light is perfect–as if the reflections in the background are mirrored on his face and chest.
fantastic colours–lilac, minty green, yellow, blue-green played off the darkness of his hair, eyes and jacket.
Although this look might be considered ‘typical’ by some, I think you have to pay attention to the little details in this picture. I mean, the fit of his shirt, the colors he uses, and the attitude with which he pulls this off really make this better than the average joe’s streetwear.
i like his intensity… beautiful colours. nice pink lips! i enjoy this look very much… especially because of the colours (not too much, very well played). it wouldn’t have as been interesting otherwise…
I’m always impressed with very young people who favour a retro look from an era that predates their consciousness. Where did he get the ideas? Why does he prefer this look to more modern clothes? Does he look like this every day or is this a fancy dress’ occasion?
There’s only a drapey keffiya and a single dangling earring wanting to complete this handsome young chap’s rendition of the year 1988 (give or take season). But I wonder what he’s wearing on bottom. Is he hardcore enough to rock the paperbag waist jeans, slouchy socks and chunky creepers that complete the period costume?
This is a great picture. For a second, I thought I was looking at the Face Hunter blog I also have bookmarked. This is certainly a different look captured by the Satorialist. Usually the photos tend to lean toward a classic look done well or with a twist and usually in the daylight. Still wonderful though.
I might have been oblivious to this before, but lately your photographs seem to just take off to another level of artistic expression. I LOVE IT! It makes me happy to see something like this photo every couple of days. Like getting a present. I’m sure Pitti Uomo is a big reason, but it feels like Christmas. Thank you!
That being said this beautiful creature is getting a triple A+ for the way he wears the hat.
i got your blog from post magazine in hk. i was hoping i would see pictures of hk people here but i see none!!!! :( anyway i think your photography is great, and a wonderful selection of fashion and individuals around the world….
This guy’s name is Matt Holloway? Matt something…He used to be a male model, did some shows but I think he does styling now or something. I’m really not sure but if it’s him he’s originally from Vancouver.
Whenever I see a young man like this I first think, “I wonder what his reference points were”. In many instances, it’s all about some indie movie character and this is ok since young men read little; in the worst case, it’s a TV show; this look is cool for many reasons but, for me, mostly about the trilby and the counterpoint with the face and colors in the shirt; beats cargos and athletic shirt any day of the week; bravo
Alright, so he grabs your attention in a way that only that very fridge look can. The T works well with the dark brooding look, fallen-angelesque. Jury’s still out on the hat but the colour on his lips completes the look.
Such a handsome young man! He plays up the angularity of his face very well with his collar, hat, makeup. Very good that the right photographer came along to capture it!
For me, this ensemble is about that perfectly wonderful hat, without which the color combinations would be less than inspiring, though still quite pleasing.
And it helps, of course, that he’s tremendously attractive.
Great. The color of the hat and the green in the t-shirt. The face on the t-shirt matching the guy’s face. Nothing like a good photograph to give us a new start.
I love how you framed this picture sart! He screams youth and night and wild and city streets. The color combination is great and the eyeliner is just right on him. I also wish I could pull it off, tried once… big mistake.
He is Self conscious and GORGEOUS. Who the hell cares if he is a “real man”? People… To me he is being himself, and his cute little self is Hot, punto.

I know everyone goes straight to the hat, but this look is all about that incredibly casual brown jacket. Seriously, think about it. The common “hipster” (I appologize to offended europeans but i need it to serve a point) would go for a black jacket, maybe leather…not this blue collar working man’s jacket. He is really capitalizing on what he’s got to show and he’s just a little irresistable for it. BTW, I love androgeony and this is why.

Lora dear, let me explain something to you.
club kid 1992= club kid 2008
The point is and always will be: sex, youth, late nights, bright lights and more than likely, drugs
(not to assume anything about this young man, who knows maybe he’s clean as a whistle?)
Anyways, Lora, there is no ‘point’ to fashion. That’s what makes it fashion, isn’t it? :)
