My oh my, what a LOVELY view! So well put together, and terrifically handsome. It was a sunny day wasn’t it!
February 11, 2008 at 8:09 pm
north of the belt is great!but grey jeans w. a small cuff and sloppy crotch? hmmmm…. not doing it for me.
February 11, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Those are some ugly jeans. Other than that I think it’s ok, but not my style.
February 11, 2008 at 8:23 pm
grey jeans and relaxed crotch is what makes this look. he is super cool. i hear he is coming out with a fabulous jewelry line??
February 11, 2008 at 8:47 pm
If it were me, I prob would’ve chosen: darker pants, a lighter-colored sweater, and a darker shade for the scarf.
February 11, 2008 at 10:08 pm
What a stance! love the colors , his shadow, the tree behind, I can see some Paul Newman in him…
February 11, 2008 at 10:15 pm
he’s like the son of the guy below with the beard.
February 11, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Even dated jeans can’t make this man any less striking.
February 11, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Looking sharp. Can’t go wrong with aviators. Did he borrow the boots from the man pictured below?
February 11, 2008 at 11:07 pm
this is a corduroy jacket actually by polo/ralph. one of my favorite finds recently.
February 11, 2008 at 11:17 pm
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts – just a nice, Saturday, put it on and go look.
Cord jacket? Anyway, everything broken in and comfortable, but still with style.

I’m normally such a fan, but over the last week or so I’ve found the men depicted very uninspiring. Slow period at the moment?
February 12, 2008 at 2:14 am
Looks like he belongs in Santa Fe!
February 12, 2008 at 2:59 am
I love that jacket it’s actually last seasons Ralph Lauren, fitted cord with a tartan lining! Looks great open, very English Patient.
February 12, 2008 at 3:36 am
like the top of his look. don’t very like grey jeans, boots and especially doubt about cuffs. although i must admit that he looks very neat and accurate.
February 12, 2008 at 4:12 am
there’s just something so – old-fashioned and classic about him. i love the sun!
February 12, 2008 at 4:45 am
Excellent post – lovely capture of the light & something autumnal about the palette. But is there something a little strange going on with the fit of the trousers?
February 12, 2008 at 4:56 am
i have to agree with maria. Actually i have a very similar jacket: same cut, same colour, only mine’s corduroy, & the belt was missing when I bought it (second hand).

A scarf and a jacket – good match but the jeans. Well anyway, what a beautiful day.
February 12, 2008 at 7:37 am
Enough about the jeans… GEEZ… this is a great look – did anyone else notice how well camel / grey / black work together? The jeans are fine, the sweater is fine, the scarf and jacket… also fine. And yes, it WAS sunny yesterday!
February 12, 2008 at 8:25 am
No Anon 7:37, those are ugly jeans and they maybe ruin the whole thing- the great jacket, the smile, the aviators. But they don’t ruin the sunniness of this, which is cool.

As someone who rarely wears jeans, (“Jeans are for teens”) I am amazed at the controversy over this gentleman’s jeans. While I do appreciate the many nuances of jeanswear, nevertheless they are the ultimate casual pant. Spend a few vino-induced evenings in NYC with me and my “jean-designer” pal and find out how silly and contrived the whole jean design thing really is. In the end, it is totally about the fit. As he said one night, “It’s the fit; that’s it”

If I were a boy, I’d wish I were Ward.

great coat! Saw that in Macy’s, yes Macy’s.. it’s Lauren, was on sale for $495.
I tried it on, has a fantastic fit for a off the rack, but to my dismay only size small left :(

Sart, when you’re lacking subjects to shot you can always count on this young man, don’t you?
Jeans are perfect for this style. APC’s are not for all outfits.
February 12, 2008 at 11:05 am
Macy’s? Heavens. In any case, it’s a blockish, too square, a look, and the scarf looks like an absurd contrivance. Can’t stand thick soled shoes. Must be comfortable for walking though.

“there’s just something so – old-fashioned and classic about him”
I completely agree. When I saw this photo it reminded me of old photos of my dad and his buddies standing in front of their jet airplanes.

I am tired of scarfs tied in that manner. It looks too studied. The essence of style is that you are not really trying. That is what makes the game so fun.
February 12, 2008 at 3:25 pm
for Woofusplease… there is no easier more effortless way to tie a scarf than this example

“there is no easier more effortless way to tie a scarf than this example”
I absolutely agree, Scott. No ascot-style fumbling, or prayer-shawl ends dangling … it’s the simplest sort of loop “knot”. I started wearing scarves like this 20 years ago. There are other easy and smart ways to do it, but none easier than this one.

mr. hughes, your plane is ready.
February 12, 2008 at 7:13 pm
This may sound crazy, but his face reminds me a lot of Fred Astaire.
February 13, 2008 at 12:00 am
i love his hair so much…
February 13, 2008 at 3:03 am
Looks to me as if he’s going out for the Sunday paper!

does anyone know more about this? how fabulous? does he have a background that enables him to be capable of creating “a fabulous jewelry line”???

i wish i could walk out of my door and effortlessly throw myself together like this striking lad. it all works since it isn’t a thought out wardrobe decision…just pieces laying around thrown on for a trip to the coffee shop (or so that is my scenario)
February 18, 2008 at 10:41 pm
I love the jacket, i think its Ralph Lauren polo from fall 2007…wish i had gotten that one now

good selection of colours and textures. Jeans are well fitting (I don’t mean tight, but elegantly loose) with good shoes and belt. Interesting cord coat and pashmina, very elegant.

I imagine Antoine du Saint-Exupery meeting the little prince dressed in this outfit
