That parka has too many golden strings, zips and buttons for my taste, but I like the well balanced shapes and the coherence used in colours. She looks very secure and confortable: well done.

love the print of her tunic, with the subtle gold working with the olive tone of her jacket (or is it a coat if it is that long?)
    lovely photo, too sart.

Great foto, reflections in the building match her totally New Yorky style! You do it every time! Like the plaid guy from the other day–the environment around him was also plaid!

I THINK the coat is Balenciaga, but I’m not positive. The heels are Balenciaga and I know Balenciaga did these lux parkas…so it may be!

    She looks great.

I wish I knew these marvelous ways of tying a scarf. The bag is great, and I really do like that parka. Is it leather?

She looks good technically I guess. Kind of boring though, I see nothing remarkable. She appears fashionable but not stylish. Designer clothes won’t give you style.

Maybe she was having an off day?

The grey thights matched with the black shoes and the bag from Balenciaga look fine as always. There is just a bit too much of scarf around her neck and I´m not fond of the coat either. Nice girl though.

Well my oh my, she is just BEAUTIFUL!
I love the touch of military in the jacket, and although the colours
are a little somber, they work perfectly.
    Subtle yet striking

I love this photo, Sart. The jacket, the billowy scarf, the tights/leggings, this is such a great look. Of course the lady here herself is exceptionally beautiful, IMVHO, so I don’t see how you could have gone wrong. I would be interested to see the curious (I mean intriguing!) pattern on her frock. Well executed.

your blog, signore sartorialist, reminds me of design [actually for me, architectural] school’s crit sessions– ‘TRUTH’ lies somewhere in the combination of many ‘truths’ expressed. best of all, you provoke and challenge orthodoxies, rules, standards re: our visual and consumer culture.

i love the fact that many questions are left at that… would love to see you as a guest on PROJECT RUNWAY [another forum about the creative process and the visual arts]. seriously.

So proper and boring! Terrible mix of colour. Nice shoes- and legs- but the jacket doesn’t fit – nor clashes – in an interesting manner… Whatever…

I’ve been seeing a lot of grey tights on here lately. I guess this is to get the opacity of the traditional black without pulling the colour mix down too much. I like it!

Thats Samantha Traina. The coat and shoes are Balenciaga. The dress is Dries Van Notten. Love the look! Those Traina’s get it right every time!!!

I notice all tights are gray. Her dress is intriguing. The pattern and slate blue/gray is beautiful. I agree that the coat doesn’t do anything. But these make-upless women w/ beautiful skin are refreshing.

    Beauty naturally.

i kinda like the mix of rugged and feminine. the parka looks functional (even if its not) and the dress and tights look more feminine. i love gray tights.

very cute. i’m noticing grey tights in these ny photos.
it normally takes a while for fashion and trends to make their way west to san francisco (where i live). this look would be very appropriate for this city, though. tights, rain coat, color.

true this photo needs enlarging for true appreciation- the pattern on the dress is amazing and pulls it all together. love the girly dress/ gritty coat combination. where is the scarf from? i’ve been looking for one as generous as that for aaaages.

I love this look. I love how the coat and scarf look like they don’t work with the pieces underneath while at the same time being perfectly balanced with them. The coat is a proper length for the skirt and it is bulky, which balances it with the scarf and the bag. The shoes, the bag, and the scarf all work together without being matchy.

Samantha Traina is a very kind and gracious young woman. I sold her an Avedon book in San Francisco when she was about 18yrs old. She’s got the taste of her chic mother, Danielle Steele – and the heart of a humble Buddha.

I think its all too much…the bag and scarf are over-sized for the rest of the outfit and the shoes too high for the coat…she looks like shes coming home from being out the night before…sorry!

Wow, here outfit is perfect from head to toes. My eyes go immediately to her ankle strap shoes, which I have (for no lucid reason) never worn because I think they are not flattering to my body, not tall enough I think. But when I look at her, the shoes are the first place I go.
And her jacket, wonder if its warmer than mine?
