Wow, that’s awesome, Sart! My parents are from India but I’ve never been there and only had the desire to do so after watching the Darjeeling Limited. Hope you have a good time!
You will likely not see a woman’s legs. Do send us your brilliant shots of the sensuous women in saris (or even salwaar kameez); I could not take my eyes off them when I was there last year.
That’s not entirely true. While conservative overall, Delhi is an extremely stylish city, and women there dress in a myriad of ways. You’ll see gams and stilettos aplenty, Sart, especially in certain neighborhoods.
Oh Delhi! What a chaotic city,it has so much character! You will love the colours, the fabrics and the iconoclastic images. You’ll most likely be intimidated at first, but in a matter of hours you’ll be joining Indians in the hustle and bustle of the hectic days. Can’t wait to see the pictures. Best of luck.
Delhi is a great city, but it’ll obviously be very different from the West and even from East Asia. I personally think Bombay (Mumbai) has more culture and style, so if you get a chance to go there you definitely should. Good luck with your travels, and am looking forward to seeing your pictures!!!
India is the best! Be aware that north India is different from the south, and the west, and the east. The styles and beauty you will see in New Delhi are only a fraction of what India contains. I know you will get some amazing shots.
I was born in Vijayawada, Andra Pradesh and now live in Ann Arbor, MI. I am so proud that you are in India now.
You don’t need to post this, but if you find yourself hungry while in south Delhi, search out a place called Rajinder da Dhaba. It is the most down-to-earth and delicious mughal eatery on the planet.
It’s immediately north of Safdarjung Enclave, on the north side of street running east-west. (just ask a local rickshaw or taxi wallah to take your there). It also isn’t too far from Hauz Khas, which you will likely visit.
Sart Big fan of yours, from India. Don’t forget to visit Old Delhi and Connaught Place, both historic old city centers. Do step out of the luxury hotels, it’s safe and not that hot at this time. All the real colors are outside! Do try to visit an old-time bespoke mens’ tailoring shop, maybe in Connaught Place – like Vaish Bros. I had a suit made there, and it was surprisingly good, with a huge selection of fabrics. cheers Rom
i CANNOT wait for these. they’ll be so different from what you usually do! i hope to see some beautiful saris.
i also hope you have a chance to go to bombay, because you’ll have better luck there getting amazing shots, as it’s the fashion capital of the country.
good luck. you’ll come back 100x more grateful for what you have.
The saris are beautiful. Women’s western wear didn’t impress me when I was there in November, the menswear was pretty interesting–a mix of traditional and business attire, I thought it always looked effortless
oh. that’s great! can’t wait to see the pictures. i really like how the indian men dress. and now i’m talking about the regular, poor indian guy. their colorful knitted vests and shirts. and the way they wrap blankets around them. and they are all so beautiful, with their big eyes and smiles. i’m sure you’ll spot some great styles. and i am SO JEALOUS that you are in india. enjoy!
Have a wonderful time in India–I was all over the north during the summer. You’ll find women who have a completely different concept of color. See if you can find a family of five on one motorbike. It’s an incredible country.
I will be going to India myself for the first time this fall. I can’t wait to see what kind of inspiration you find. And then to experience it firsthand..
Looking forward to seeing India through your lens…Will be very interesting to see what you find there and to see your interpretation. I can use a break from all the usual editors. Bon voyage, Sarto.
Yeay!! You are here. I can’t wait to see the pictures. I think you would love the roadside workers in their funky, colourful, layers of fabrics.
Though not an obvious connect, but I think you should check out some religious places. You will see a lot of traditionally dressed individuals who otherwise just don the convenient clothes.
India is full of vibrant color, patterns, and textures! I’ve been there several times and I really hope you put up pictures of women in the traditional attire. Indian clothes are truly some of the beautiful ensembles of clothing you will ever see in your life.

Delhi, my hometown, my home.. Enjoy yourself there.. God Bless..
You have to go to Priya’s in Vasant Vihar to see the perfect fusion of east west among the youngsters..
And you have to go to old Delhi to experience the richness of colors and textures in Indian Dressing.

New Delhi- or dilli as we say in India- is one of my hometowns along with Dubai and Toronto.
Haus Khas, South Ex, Connaught Place, Noida etc should be fun and I’m excited to see what you’ll come up with.
I hope you find it easy to get permission- Indian women can be a little more reserved in such matters sometimes.
Hope you enjoy your trip and find lots to click!

Sart,
Another fan from Mumbai (or Bombay) in India. You’ll definitely find some interesting stuff in Delhi.
If you want to see women dress a little crazy and over the top, you must visit Mumbai. Certain pockets of the city have a quirky style quotient.
Have a great trip.
