Is he using a skinny scarf as a tie? His belt is studded? Ah, this is just delish. Everything tells a story about this man and I’m loving the tale.
Fabulous. Love the knitted tie meeting a funky belt, love the waistcoat, and love the cape, which is clearly the perfect solution when you don’t want to wear a mismatched jacket or an overcoat. Great.
March 12, 2008 at 10:39 am
Sweet find. A cape? Hilarious. This site is my homepage because it is so good. But if there is one thing I crave, it is a single cutline that explains where the subject is going or coming from. Was this guy going to a job interview or vampire convention?
we could grow up together
March 12, 2008 at 10:49 am
it is jaw dropping, inspirationally
March 12, 2008 at 10:50 am
very harry potter… but chic…
March 12, 2008 at 10:51 am
that tie is knit? strange….
LOVE the hair, tie, vest, belt, not to mention the cape!
March 12, 2008 at 10:52 am
At first I was going to comment thatI like the vest and cape combo, and then I noticed the tiniest detail that made me fall in love with this outfit completely…the studded leather belt! THAT is a mark of pure genius!
March 12, 2008 at 10:54 am
I love the color combination and preppy style brought together with the modern stud belt. Hot.
March 12, 2008 at 10:57 am
the two things i love most? 1) the curls. 2) the studded belt.
March 12, 2008 at 11:05 am
Always nice to see someone is thinking about fashion in a longer scope than just “contemporary”. It seems to me though, that the belt doesn’t belong there.
March 12, 2008 at 11:19 am
Can I have his number?
March 12, 2008 at 11:20 am
Oh, that’s wonderful.
March 12, 2008 at 11:21 am
the cape is so sweet! i guess it looks great on gals too~
March 12, 2008 at 11:26 am
Wow, a cape! I like the knit tie, the simple color contrasts, the long hair.
March 12, 2008 at 11:30 am
Love this, the collegiate look is fantastic.
For me the hair leaves something to be desired, but the outfit: sweet sartorial perfection. The studded belt, and knit tie add a nice edge to the outfit, but the two details that interest me are the school-boy cape (any idea what’s on the crest) and the waistcoat; buttoned in such a way that gives this look that certain panache. Well shot Scott, Cheers!
March 12, 2008 at 11:33 am
is that Scott Thompson from The Kids in the Hall?
March 12, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Love the vest and especially the tie! One of the few men I’ve seen that can pull of a cape.
Punk! Trad! Beautiful hair!
March 12, 2008 at 12:13 pm
He’d fit right in at Hogwarts.
Like the waistcoat though.
Wow, I really like the emblem on the cape, and I really like the way the dark cap and pants counter the patterned shirt, tie and vest. Also, zoom in on the tie, it’s knit!! A very lovely look overall, I think my favorite accessory to go with a look like this is gorgeous, blonde curly hair though!
March 12, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Preppy facade, Goth underpinnings…I like!
March 12, 2008 at 12:20 pm
What an ensemble of details, from the studded belt to the preppy crest and knitted tie. Thanks to the colour palette and conservative elements like the waistcoat and black pant he’s able to be really playful. Great shot.
March 12, 2008 at 12:22 pm
i’m really diggin’ his tie.
March 12, 2008 at 12:26 pm
I love it
March 12, 2008 at 12:29 pm
hogwarts for grown ups?I like it though – what gorgeous hair!
March 12, 2008 at 12:30 pm
March 12, 2008 at 12:43 pm
I like the tie! The texture of it takes away some of the formality of the outfit. A good thing as it matches his hair!
March 12, 2008 at 12:44 pm
The crest on his cape reminds me of my old boarding school uniform–but for grown-ups. Love how the studded belt toughens up the look, even with those gorgeous corkscrew curls!
March 12, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Punk rock meets English boarding school, a well-trod path, and he makes it his own. If I’m not mistaken, those are SAFETY PINS he’s using as collar stays…now that says ’1977′. Last time you posted a man-cape, Scott, there was much flak; perhaps tastes are evolving, as everyone likes this combo.
March 12, 2008 at 1:12 pm
I just love the traditional Oxford scholar look combined with the studded belt – fantastic!I love capes, but I think you do need to be tall, like I think he is, to wear them well.
March 12, 2008 at 1:21 pm
miss cavendish said…Love how the studded belt toughens up the look, even with those gorgeous corkscrew curls!
miss cavendish is exactly right!…especially about the studded belt. I also really love the knitted tie and the background colour.
March 12, 2008 at 1:23 pm
the cape adds soo much more to this outfit!i love it!!
March 12, 2008 at 1:24 pm
March 12, 2008 at 1:52 pm
This is really cool. I like how he’s made the style his own with the belt and unbuttoning. He seems at ease in it all.
March 12, 2008 at 2:07 pm
He’s cute, isn’t he ?
March 12, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Perfect. Ralph Lauren meets Hogwarts.
March 12, 2008 at 2:39 pm
I love the fact that the knot in the tie is secured with a large pin. When I first looked at this picture I thought that he was older simply because of the look on his face and his stance. However, the studded belt makes this look much younger, rakish even.

March 12, 2008 at 2:54 pm
The sleek line and austere color of the cape are the perfect complement/contrast to his soft textured curls. Fantastic pairing.
March 12, 2008 at 3:23 pm
He has this whole Hogwarts/wizard vibe going on. I think I would prefer this without the cape; it just seems too costume-ish. The belt is a nice touch, though.
March 12, 2008 at 4:06 pm
love, love, love it
March 12, 2008 at 4:34 pm
The cape is from Rugby. I have one just like it. $25 bucks in a Florida Polo outlet. I’ll never wear it but if anyone wants it (one size fits all) I’ll let it go for $200 bucks. Shipping included!
Schu, I’ll cut you in for 20%.
March 12, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Oh, wow, this is quite dashing!
March 12, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Am I the only one who thinks the studded belt makes him look like a Hot Topic tool? Maybe its just my own personal bias but that detail killed this look for me. Other than that he is totally pulling off the cape and I love a good knit tie.
March 12, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Gorgeous outfit! I think the hair nailed it, lol!
March 12, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Oh my god, who is that man? He (fine, and his look) is breathtaking.
March 12, 2008 at 5:40 pm
totally love this photo
March 12, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Love the belt and cape…
If I am not mistaken the tie as well as the vest are from J. Crew. Their website has the exact herringbone vest and knit tie.
March 12, 2008 at 6:16 pm
So British, but in a good way. I love CRESTS and it was nice that it was emblazoned on a CAPE of all things. Very HP. I also really love KNIT TIES and the fact that he accessorized it with that barely there TIE PIN was genius. Mad Props!
March 12, 2008 at 6:24 pm
I love the alternations between the vest and the belt, the cape and the tie… And the messy hair! It’s as if he is struggling against an uptight influence and a personal want to rebel. I love it.
March 12, 2008 at 6:34 pm
I’m going to say the cape is over-doing it a tad. I do dig the whole gothic, prep school look (studded belt with collar bar and a great knit tie).
March 12, 2008 at 7:35 pm
I´m not sure, looks a bit like a costume.
All items are nice, but still….doesn´t seem natural to me.
March 12, 2008 at 8:19 pm
It’s great to see a man in a cape. I have my own love affair with capes. Does anyone else notice the tucked-in tie and the safety pin in the collar?Overall, a great look.
March 12, 2008 at 8:20 pm
The cape obstructs the confluence of the herringbone tweed vest & the studded belt.
March 12, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Reminiscent of a cute schoolboy all grown up. Nice look, but studded belts are almost always a no in my opinion.Definite kudos for originality and resourcefulness (the scarf/tie, the safety pin)!
March 12, 2008 at 9:21 pm
from the title I was very excited, but then I saw that instead of being some gorgeous man in a cape (WHAT A WONDERFUL IDEA), he looked like a Hogwarts student.
March 12, 2008 at 9:36 pm
one word (almost): i’m in love !
March 12, 2008 at 9:45 pm
If I am not mistaken-almost everything he is wearing is from Ralph Lauren Rugby. The patch has three crowns in silver thread and reads R.L.F.C. (Ralph Lauren Football Club) across the top. All of the Rugby stores sell these patches and can be out on any piece of clothing. http://www.Rugby.com
March 12, 2008 at 9:56 pm
the cape serves a purpose, which I find truly satisfying as I have been seeing people wear clothing elements just for the affect of appearing stylish. The lines of the shirt, tie, and vest all pertain to different directions, but thats what makes this outfit truly extraordinary.
March 12, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Who has the balls to wear a cape? Only a true sartorialist! As the mad poet wrote, ‘The pride of the peacock is the glory of God.’
March 12, 2008 at 10:17 pm
This is one of your best shots. Well done.
March 12, 2008 at 11:12 pm
He looks great. The photo captures him really well too.Btw, his cape is identical to the ones University students wear at this time of the year in Portugal (both man and woman wear them). Usually we put the insignia of our university on the outside (plus any other insignias of other universities “conquered”- think each date equals one insignia, kind of thing). So, to answer the question from the anonimous above “Who has the balls to wear a cape?” Every university student runs around in one at this time of the year, in Portugal at least. There is no such thing as capes being just for women, or fashion forward people.
March 12, 2008 at 11:52 pm
“Oh, bloody hell. The last train to Hogwarts just left. I’ll just stand here in my cape in front of this blue wall…and look absolutely dashing.”
Love the shirt/vest/scarf tie combo, but does it make anyone else cringe that he put a safety pin through his collar?
March 13, 2008 at 12:40 am
This haircut and outfit would look great on someone younger. His face looks far too mature for this and it screams “lost youth”.
March 13, 2008 at 1:53 am
March 13, 2008 at 5:34 am
Cape – no comment.
March 13, 2008 at 8:07 am
its not a safety pin! its a tie pin-very old school chic
March 13, 2008 at 8:31 am
“That’s a lot of ‘look’.”
March 13, 2008 at 8:35 am
Love everything…except the cape. It’s the crest. I realize that anything beyond the most basic clothing is an affectation, but should I wear my tam or hood around?
Everything else is so great looking. What did his shoes look like?
March 13, 2008 at 9:45 am
This chap seems to be getting a much better press than your earlier cape wearer, http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4686/1648/1600/LEScape.jpg I wonder why?
March 13, 2008 at 10:45 am
I almost bought that tie yesterday in Marshalls (as Chip said above, Ralph Lauren)… – Great look on him! Satisfyingly slouchy.
March 13, 2008 at 12:45 pm
This has Seinfeld written all over it.
“Who wears a cape?”
March 13, 2008 at 1:07 pm
I like the look but it looks sloppy around his waist.
March 13, 2008 at 2:09 pm
I agree the waist doesn’t look right, but the cape does look stunning.
March 13, 2008 at 3:07 pm
safety pin on collar is niceenlarge photo to see
March 13, 2008 at 4:15 pm
For me its about texture. tweed vest, knit tie, studded belt. its a modern take on prep. verry inspirational. the collar pin is a nice touch too
March 13, 2008 at 5:11 pm
He looks like the cool kid Hogwarts never had…
March 13, 2008 at 10:14 pm
lovely! he looks like he walked out of a Ralph Lauren ad!
March 13, 2008 at 11:11 pm
He looks to me like a young cool teacher from a posh English boarding school on a school excursion, wearing the school cape over his normal clothes.
March 14, 2008 at 3:22 am
Great, I love it. The cape is a little daring though.
March 14, 2008 at 8:31 am
Love capes, but not that one :S (the crest exceed). At least its always a pleasure to see that some men dont forget that exquisite garment.
March 14, 2008 at 5:29 pm
I love the cape… it reminds me of Z Zegna’s recent raincoat/ cape runway look! The cape is so traditional and unique! This guy pulls off a beautiful traditional meets today look that I admire!
March 15, 2008 at 8:27 pm
his look is stunning!
March 16, 2008 at 11:00 am
It kind of puzzles me that this look (I like it, btw) got a lot of compliments, and the milanese guy with a cape got a lot of “costume-y”.
Actually, this guy IS wearing “a costume” while the milanese guy was wearing “a classic” (grandpa’s cape);at least in my (italian) perception.
I agree with the guy commenting the photo of the “layered” indian boy: we should not be limited by and to our backgrounds.
March 19, 2008 at 11:12 am
This appears to me a very British look, with the cape, vest, tie, stud belt, and pretty-boy curls. The cape gives some preppy appeal, but is offset slightly by the studded belt. The knit tie is a great twist on the classic, especially paired with such a fabulous vest! His cute curls just add to the whole theme of updated British classics!
March 23, 2008 at 2:25 am
This is a great look for many special occasions! I’m loving the detail of the leaving the last two buttons on the vest unbuttoned to show the black and white stripped tie meeting the black studded belt – very clever! The cape brings in a dramatic flair! Love the curly hair, but it needs a lil grooming.
March 23, 2008 at 11:50 pm
ohhh love the crest on the cape. he can’t be american.
March 24, 2008 at 1:04 am
give this chap a wand and he’ll be set for Hogwarts! simply spiffing! :)
March 29, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Like the people from before said… every item he’s wearing comes from one label– Ralph Lauren Rugby. The cape was fall ’07, and it could fasten at the top with some AMAZING silver skull and bone things, and the knit tie, shirt, belt, waistcoat, and collar pin ALL come from the same line (interestingly enough, considering the contrasting styles of the studded belt vs. the boarding school look).
March 30, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Hes really rockin that cape. Love the combination of the straight with the edgy. Cute knitted tie, and that studded belt just hints of his true intentions.
August 4, 2008 at 9:05 pm
I love it. The tie-bar, the belt, the shirt, the vest, the pants. And the cape works on it for outdoors. Fantastic outfit.
September 27, 2008 at 11:52 pm
he is totally rocking the ‘harry potter’ look, isn’t he?!
December 1, 2008 at 4:48 pm
harry potter meets jay gatsby. brill.
