Chucks are the quintessential shoe, complete lack of fuss, and completely stylish. Despite my closet full of shoes and my job designing them, I always end up wearing chucks. You can do just about anything in them until they are destroyed and then they are blessedly affordable so you can buy another pair. People love to make lists about wardrobe essentials and what-not, and if I were to make one, yes, chucks would be higher up than the ultimate commandment, thou shalt own a black trench.

Converse Chuck Taylor basketball shoes: I wore them in middle school and high school to play basketball, and that's about all. I've never been able to warm up to them as a high-style wardrobe element, for men or women.

I think the basic womens' Keds or Tretorns would work much better than the Chucks for this woman.

Oh gawd … I want those legs! I'm a Chuck Taylor freak, but I can never make the sneakers look so cool. What really fascinates me about her is not so much the legs – many girls have them, but her effortless coolness.
