Right, this is really a very easy style and very fashionable at the same time. I love the red colour.

Funky & stylish. Summer-friendly if you ask me.
July 18, 2011 at 9:02 am
WHERE can I get this dress??!!
July 18, 2011 at 9:04 am
It's so hot in DC, I do worry that I will ignite upon leaving my AC dwelling. This is the type of igniting that I would prefer – bright red dress. Lovely.
this. is. absolutely. amazing.
perfect summer outfit…so cool!
July 18, 2011 at 9:05 am
That dress is quite stunning, such volume and the color is so bright.
I love this style.I feel the vacation.
Inside my head and wardrobe
so true this is defintyly how to wear fashionable clothes in the summer! she looks amazing! im in love with this dress"
July 18, 2011 at 9:09 am
Hahaha it is funny how OPPOSITE it is in England right now. We're all complaining it is too rainy to wear any summer outfits *sigh*. She looks so chic, and I love how at first glance it looks as if she's barefoot. Really adds to the picture!
July 18, 2011 at 9:10 am
amazing! especially love how she paired a simple flat with the dramatic dress!
July 18, 2011 at 9:12 am
Great color on her.

July 18, 2011 at 9:21 am
So perfect for summer, I love how even the shape conveys the idea of summer: fresh, floaty and fun!
July 18, 2011 at 9:23 am
I like your first sentence, it's fun!
And I agree with you, we can dress stylish even in summer! ;) Great exemple!

So wonderfully chic, and if it weren't for the mobile phone it would be such a carefree look – love that all the drama comes from the colour of the dress.
Beautiful RED DRESS and Pic!!!
July 18, 2011 at 10:06 am
Completely true… there is always away to wear fashion no matter the climate! A good example of summer dress, J'adore x
This is a great look for a hot summer day. Perfectly accessorized with the big iced coffee!
July 18, 2011 at 10:12 am
Every once I a while you see someone on the street with a look that clearly reflects the season, the spirit of the day and coolness.I think that this girls is that person. And it is not just because of the dress which by the way is gorgeous. It is also how she has her hair, the a ccessories on her hand the drink that she has. Really great post.I love it. Defiantly a favorite.
July 18, 2011 at 10:18 am
Gorgeous! Love that color!

That definitely looks like a cool outfit – very breezy and stylish all in one.
July 18, 2011 at 10:34 am
So beautiful, the flowiness is fantastic
July 18, 2011 at 10:37 am
I absolutely love this dress, and her accessories! Nothing like a big red dress to get the attention of surrounding pedestrians.
July 18, 2011 at 10:40 am
It´s summer :-)

July 18, 2011 at 10:42 am

July 18, 2011 at 10:48 am
Lovely! I love her bracelets too.
July 18, 2011 at 10:53 am
wow, beautiful! love love love the color!!
July 18, 2011 at 10:56 am
With this horribly hot summer even that dress looks too much clothes, so i'd make it a bit shorter but the rest is perfect!
July 18, 2011 at 11:01 am
Oh, I love this dress!! I love the color, the style, the whole thing. The shoes are cute too! The whole look reminds me of summer!
July 18, 2011 at 11:08 am
It's all about the wearer. Confidence can carry off a potato sack and look amazingly chic and cool (if the weather is hot). A stereotype but it's true.

IS THIS IT? models review
July 18, 2011 at 12:45 pm
"Bright colors, fun accessories and easy hairstyles" – yep, I totally agree, that's the key… and you don't have to be dishevelled or sloppy to feel fresh, comfortable or "summery casual".
July 18, 2011 at 12:59 pm
July 18, 2011 at 1:00 pm
Would the layering not make this rather warm, actually?
It's an exquisite dress for a night out in warm weather, if not for the beach.
July 18, 2011 at 1:07 pm
Great photo! Vibrant color, beautiful lines and feminine ruffles on the dress. She looks like she is a member of the NY City Ballet!
July 18, 2011 at 1:12 pm
dress is gorgeous, but her posture kills the look.
July 18, 2011 at 1:15 pm

July 18, 2011 at 1:34 pm
absolutely LOVE and adore that dress!
xx nessabirdie oo
July 18, 2011 at 1:38 pm
I think totally the same… ♥ dress ♥
July 18, 2011 at 1:39 pm
It looks good on her, but I wonder if anyone larger or less tan would look good in this? Also, I can't help but think that there's nothing more annoying than heavy jewelry on a hot day.
July 18, 2011 at 1:42 pm
this dress it beautiful in color and cut…almost too lovely for the daytime but the stylishly messy hair and the chic, flat sandals make it work.
as for the people who are unsure of how to dress fashionably or stylishly in hot weather…trust your imagination. most of great style comes from a willingness to spend the time to find/try out what works best for you. fashion on the otherhand is what designers present and then you pick from the collection what works best for you.
trust your imagination. know your audience. go for it. if you get it wrong, try something different.
July 18, 2011 at 1:46 pm
This color is magical! And I love the movement in this dress. Really beautiful!

July 18, 2011 at 2:49 pm
Red is my favourite color… so glad to see it back this year. and the nude sandles are spot on. I'm actually wearing a red blouse, nude platforms and a white skirt today.
only thing that's bugging me about this is that the dress looks ill fitting under her arm; like maybe the dress is to big for her and she gathered & pinned it..
July 18, 2011 at 2:51 pm
great dress, it just seem so comfortable and light !
July 18, 2011 at 2:57 pm
you captured this perfectly. i love it !! :)
this is literally perfection
what a great city shot!
wouldn't that dress look equally divine billowing on main beach in east hampton ?
yesss, I wanna know too where the dress is from, it's stunning! And so are the shoes, can anyone ID them? ;)

July 18, 2011 at 3:03 pm
I love this color, the way the dress moves w/her and the sandals, it would be high on my summer uniform list.
July 18, 2011 at 3:11 pm
the movement of that dress is INCREDIBLE. That really is the essence of summer. Love it.

July 18, 2011 at 3:32 pm
Amazing shot! & love that dress
July 18, 2011 at 3:46 pm
That dress looks like the perfect garment for a hot, humid day–it's both flow-y and lovely!
Just looking at that shade of red always makes me feel 5 degress hotter, though. It looks great on her, but I'd go for a cooler tone (pun not entirely intended).
July 18, 2011 at 3:48 pm
very, very cool summer look… so easy and chic!
July 18, 2011 at 3:49 pm
I lover her…great style & great pic!

July 18, 2011 at 4:11 pm
The dress is from Wasteland in Los Angeles, by Fumblin Foe. And the sandals are Joe's from the Saks outlet. Glad people liked the dress!
July 18, 2011 at 4:19 pm
Love this look.

July 18, 2011 at 6:26 pm
So true, I love this posttt!
July 18, 2011 at 6:44 pm
Totally agree with the comment. just keep it simple for the summer and it works out. If you want details, best leave that for the jewelry or hair. This woman looks amazing. It actually makes me happy to look at her.
July 18, 2011 at 7:23 pm
Every time I see your photos Scott, I long for warmer weather. This photo has inspired me to pop on my favourite dusty pink silk summer maxi…unfortunately it will be over the top of a black roll neck and vintage ankle boots. Damn cold Melbourne weather.
July 18, 2011 at 8:02 pm
This whole looks so well because of the simple neutrality of the shoes..blend in but on closer inspection have subtle details.
July 18, 2011 at 8:17 pm
I like it,I like it,I really, really liiiike it!
July 18, 2011 at 8:33 pm
Love the color!
July 18, 2011 at 8:58 pm
I can't stop staring – the invisible shoes with the bright dress in the dirty, hot city. Fantastic!
July 18, 2011 at 8:59 pm
very agreeable to the said statements. the red maxidress is just summerly divine.
July 18, 2011 at 9:09 pm
I need this dress…sadly, my bodacious boobies would not work in this dress.
July 18, 2011 at 9:36 pm
i really need to get more dresses like that one.

July 18, 2011 at 11:03 pm
I adore this color and it is everywhere right now. I love the easy style this girl has.
July 18, 2011 at 11:16 pm
I saw this woman in Manhattan on the same day and her image was burned in my memory, mainly from the way the dress was dancing in the wind. It was incredible.
July 18, 2011 at 11:29 pm
seeing this picture gave me the biggest smile…I love this dress! xo
July 18, 2011 at 11:38 pm
Like the 'tropical fruit punch' colorhowever,
the cut, shape, and volume are all wrong to me. Looks like a big, red, circus tent.
Is a triangle silhouette ever flattering?
July 19, 2011 at 12:06 am
I love the teardrop shape her dress makes from this angle – reminds me of a classic Porsche.
July 19, 2011 at 12:40 am

Magnetizing picture and girl. Absolutely love it!
July 19, 2011 at 1:38 am

July 19, 2011 at 1:39 am
the hair… absolutely… completes the look..
love the easy style..
July 19, 2011 at 1:42 am
The color is lovely. The dress-tent, posture, flat feet and slurpee are not…
July 19, 2011 at 3:36 am
omg!! i really love this dress :D
July 19, 2011 at 4:23 am
Iced coffee is the best summer accessory
July 19, 2011 at 4:42 am
I would like to ask another question: How to wear when it's really cold? I haven't seen any pic's on your blog, when it's -20 or more. It's kind a hard to look good when you need at least three pairs of pants to feel warm enough.
And here in Lapland that kind of weather is really common at the winter. Then is hard to find women with leather stilettos.
July 24, 2014 at 9:15 pm
LOL!! I lived in Minnesota, and thats not humor around there, but fact! Still funny.
July 19, 2011 at 4:52 am
Fabulous photo! You really captured the floatiness of the light material, Scott. Such a huge amount of volume with no heaviness – it looks like she could just drift away. Gorgeous!

This is amazing – I am based in Asia (where it's hot and sweaty) and have been looking for the perfect summer dress… you seem to have found it! Let alone the killer pair of shoes. Love them!
July 19, 2011 at 9:29 am
Very cute but not such a viable option for us bigger gals. Shapeless dresses are not always in fashion.
July 19, 2011 at 10:26 am
for some reason, i thought she looked like Lisa Kudrow for a second. But really pretty dress though :)
July 19, 2011 at 10:30 am
c'est quoi cette robe? elle est enceinte? pas sexy du tout!!!
July 19, 2011 at 1:08 pm
I have a different question: What should I do with my summer clothes if the summer is too cold and rainy to wear them? But I love the picture!

July 19, 2011 at 3:59 pm
The dress looks like it's following her – I love it!
July 19, 2011 at 4:18 pm
Great- so now we know how to dress if we are a. skinny b. can walk around without a bra, and c. don't need to go to the office.Indeed, a great achievement.
I now dare you to find a girl that represents the "essence of summer fashion at its hottest" without being any of the above. And then tell us that summer style can be easy.
July 19, 2011 at 6:27 pm
It's very similar to a Lanvin dress from the SS 2008 collection.http://cdni.condenast.co.uk/320×480/Shows/SS2008/Paris/R-T-W/Lanvin/00230f.jpghttp://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=462329856939&set=a.462329006939.257925.26503416939&type=1&theater
July 19, 2011 at 7:13 pm
I'm probably going to be the only one to say this but I think for very hot days dressing in white, blue or green are the colours that are cooling on the eye… and this transposes to your heart rate to calm you down.
Whilst I adore this dress and it's flowing look, its fiery red colour would only make me want to look away when I'm sweltering in a high rise cityscape.
Same goes for planting in a garden–a cool lot of blue or white flowering plants amongst green grass makes you relax on a hot day. This is why pools and the ocean is also so cooling/relaxing to the psyche in summer.
July 19, 2011 at 8:49 pm
I love that her cleary slender frame is completely disguised by this vibrant sheath, which would bother many people. Lovely shot.http://styleflourish.blogspot.com/
July 19, 2011 at 8:59 pm
Love the vibrant colour of the dress. Very summery. So simple yet gorgeous. Anyone know where I can buy this dress?
July 19, 2011 at 9:11 pm
Great hand band accessories.
July 19, 2011 at 9:36 pm
Absolutely fabulous! I could live in a dress like that.
July 19, 2011 at 10:00 pm
To Annon 4:18 First of all, its not possible to find one picture that encompasses all figure types and all occasions. This woman is certainly pretty, but she is not a supermodel. What she does have is style. And its the IDEA of her outfit that is so universal. NOT the outfit itself. You could go anywhere from a lunch date, to shopping, to a playdate with your kids. Even to many offices, if you threw on a cover. I'd bet a nude or white shirt or crochet shrug would be great. As for work in a conservative office, well that is simple. You wear much the same thing winter and summer. They are airconditioned for a reason. Then, as soon as you can get out of the soul killing environment, put on a summer dress and sandals. SIMPLE.
July 20, 2011 at 12:02 am
Couldn't help but reply to this message:"Great- so now we know how to dress if we are a. skinny b. can walk around without a bra, and c. don't need to go to the office.Indeed, a great achievement.
I now dare you to find a girl that represents the "essence of summer fashion at its hottest" without being any of the above. And then tell us that summer style can be easy."
Ok, my response:The poster stated three things that he considers the "essence of summer fashion at its hottest" and they are "Bright colors, fun accessories and easy hairstyles." I don't see how being skinny, being able to wear a dress without a bra, or needing to go to the office is relevant to the point the poster is making regarding summer fashion.
I find your comment extremely rude and narrow-minded.
July 20, 2011 at 2:57 am
love the color of the dress , but the shape and how it looks to big on the girl i dont like.

am i the only one that feels like 2 messy buns make this girl look silly? i dont think its chic or casual-just find it messy/for a 12yr-old. the bracelets also make me sweat in the heat..i think 4 would have been enough rather than 40. even just those pink ones would have looked great! beautiful dress, though we can see where its been pinned. :X

Hey Scott, come to Chicago for next year's Pitch Fork Festival. Hotter than hell, but so many individualistic outfits. Bright colors, hats, sunglasses, I think that you'd like seeing it. Great crowd and music. Hope to see you there next year! -Kristen (Bring Garrance! Je parlerais avec elle en français!) Thanks for your great posts. I love reading and looking at them.

Gorgeous! She looks like a modern Rossetti. Thank you so much for the inspiration – both to the woman and to Scott. Imagine my amazement at discovering an equally stunning dress in the same flame orange at a thrift store today! Received SO many complements as I made my way around town wearing it, and in 40C is was a blessing!

Tell them to try being a designer in Florida, where we have to be stylish in hot, insanely humid weather 9 months out of the year! And I'm sure there are many places that have to make it work all year long.
By the way, this look is so "I'm confident, comfortable, and stylish in hot weather and I want you to know it!" Rock it!

unfortunately, most of the lightweight dresses are made with very little support up top. I wish there were more dresses out there that were lightweight and flowy, with either enough support or enough coverage to conceal inappropriate cleavage, or bra straps. the search continues…

for those wondering where to get the shoes, they are joe's jeans. i was searching everywhere for them and was ecstatic when i just found them in the gilt sale!! how lucky!

just like a princess

this is a great dress, but it’s one of those ones that only works if your like a size 6 or less. anyone bigger than that runs the risk of it looking like a maternity top.
