she sat silent, musing, on a red park bench, and i could not help but think she looked like somebody that i used to know.

Those colors are astonishing. This pic is particularly welcome b/c I'm jonesing for some good, clear, sparkling sunlight–the mid-South has been wrapped in a miserable, humid, cranky-making haze for weeks. Thanks for reminding me that someday real weather may return. :)

I like black dresses.
Beautiful Picture! That restaurant is AMAZING! Best Cubano in town!

This looks like everything I want in life. Morning, New York, a cafe, a light read, and a classic black dress.
She's Gorgeous. I'd see her there and propose immediately!!
July 20, 2011 at 3:54 pm
Fabulous legs!I love the color and shadow in this photo.
July 20, 2011 at 3:55 pm
Great photo! :) Blue and red are beautiful!
July 20, 2011 at 3:57 pm
Red, blue, and shadows! Lovely!
July 20, 2011 at 3:59 pm
I often think when I look at your photographs that I would never notice any beauty in your subjects if I saw them in person – it's your way of capturing and presenting them that makes them so lovely. But of course, you saw something, or you wouldn't have taken the picture…it must be amazing to have an eye like yours.

The primary colours contrast, red & blue, works wonderfully.
so sophisticated, she glows. i want to be like her when i grow up.

I love, so chic !
July 20, 2011 at 4:07 pm
Because I seem to pay far more attention sometimes to what someone is reading than what someone is wearing, she is reading The $12 Million Stuffed Shark.
July 20, 2011 at 4:14 pm
i love all the shadows.
July 20, 2011 at 4:16 pm
Amazing photo! And the girl is so beautiful :)

This is gorgeous, it's like the bench is part of her outfit <3
July 20, 2011 at 4:44 pm
I love how the light accents key aspects of this lovely lady. The bold color that pops from the deep shadows gives drama to the photograph. It's a fabulous glimpse of a moment.

Beautiful setting and she looks simply gorgeous and cool in her shirt dress.
July 20, 2011 at 5:05 pm
Am I the only one to think she forgot the dress the lower part of her body? I love long shirt dresses but sometimes a shirt is a shirt, not a dress.
July 20, 2011 at 5:06 pm
Love everything about this picture…and I want her sandals!
July 20, 2011 at 5:07 pm
This whole photograph is gorgeous with it's shiny red and blue… big <3
July 20, 2011 at 5:09 pm

The colors are so striking, fire engine red against electric blue. You caught her, simple in black, perfectly in this setting.
July 20, 2011 at 8:27 pm

Perfectly complementary colors, an attractive woman reading, sun dappled light, and best of all—not a cell phone in sight.
July 20, 2011 at 10:00 pm
Great photo. The colors are wonderful and her pose is so relaxed it's like summer personified.

The detail of the chair it is amazing great picture
July 20, 2011 at 11:15 pm
She's beautiful, but not as beautiful as Cafe Habana's corn on the cob.
July 21, 2011 at 12:02 am
Love the sandals – so much more feminine than the chunky shoes so many ladies are wearing. The simple look is really fabulous. Would love to know what that sign on the bench says.
July 21, 2011 at 2:49 am
a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning. on a random bench with a book to keep you company.
July 21, 2011 at 4:00 am
Gorgeous! The combo of the blue and red…her great hairstyle…her simple outfit…and where is she looking? You want to talk to her, learn about her. Fabulous photograph!

Nice and simple. Would love to sit on the sidewalk in a summer morning in NYC and just watch people!
July 21, 2011 at 9:59 am
the dappled sunlight on her legs is lovely
July 21, 2011 at 10:24 am
I find her dress unflatteringly, immodestly short. Three extra inches of fabric would've sent this look into the realm of perfection.
July 21, 2011 at 10:37 am
Nice picture and nice leg!
July 21, 2011 at 1:34 pm
Reading is fundamental!
July 21, 2011 at 1:52 pm
She is so beautiful and has gorgeous flowing hair. I am wondering though – is she wearing a top and skirt or a dress? Regardless, she looks simple and chic.

July 22, 2011 at 8:51 am
I love black summery dresses. I even have a couple of black shirt dresses that are similar. That is a perfect example of how its done. Great sandals, too. You find the most amazing people.
July 22, 2011 at 11:52 am
Her poise looks as if she may be a professional ballerina.
July 22, 2011 at 2:35 pm
I love her shirt, it's so minimalist yet chic!
July 22, 2011 at 3:54 pm
unassuming, elegant style with the body to go along–wish I could pull that off!! Love your pictures, and I actually learn a lot from the comments about what makes good style. Please take more pictures of in shape, middle aged women (you do include more middle aged men which is great) with interesting style. We need lots of inspiration in this age group!! Thanks in advance……
July 22, 2011 at 6:12 pm
Love the contrast of the red bench against the electric blue storefront. The subject looks cool and sophisticated though I think only a petite woman could have pulled off this look sans leggings …. there's too much upper thigh, here.
July 23, 2011 at 3:25 am
She looks so relaxed …makes me want to sit down on a bench, reading a book in the sunny afternoon ….

July 23, 2011 at 12:17 pm
Nice pic. BTW, for all who think her dress is too short, she is actually wearing a black shirt with shorts. I can tell because I have the same shirt from J Crew.
July 23, 2011 at 12:43 pm
Simple but tasteful!

Does anyone ever click on the links left by people pimping their own blog/shop/site? I don't. On principle. Its irritating that people use Scott's comments section as a forum for self-promotion.

I love the casual cool vibe you get from this lady.. However, the photo itself is gorgeous! The colour and composition is great :)
