She is sooo beautiful. The bright colors really make me smile! Seeing her on the street would make me happy, that is what fashion and personal style is all about!
The effect of the bold colors would have been totally different on someone of a lighter skin hue; the effect here seems richer and more eye-catching. The touches of black and gold are supreme; she isn’t overdoing it with accessories and her ensemble is seasonally appropriate. Fantastic!
Just beautiful!!! An effective way of welcoming the warm weather. She looks like a walking blooming flower. Even with with the black fingerless gloves.
The colors are gorgeous on her, but what really makes this look come together for me are the gloves. They are so much more about her personality and hint at much more than these cheery colors reveal.
The wrapping of the two-toned scarf is achingly beautiful and pairing it with this coral jacket and jewel blue dress is stunning. I wish to see more of this lovely femininity from our city slickers.
This woman is bold not only in her color choice but in her stance and choice of accessories. Seems to all work perfectly together and with the approach of summer.
Wow, vibrant colors. Possibly just the lighting, but maybe the colors are too dark for her skin tone, you almost lose her face. However, I love the eccentricity, seems like an urban take on tribal African attire. A few things I’d switch up, but I love the creativity.
That outfit is really trying to wear her…….but no way, she is definitely wearing the outfit. Are the gloves a function here, or the latest & greatest ? I like the hint of “smolder” in her eyes. Meow. Thank You.
Now that’s a portrait! Love. Everything about this image is awesome: Her attitude, her stance, the draping of her cardigan over her left hip, and the folds of her scarf, the bright primary colors against her skin tone. Simple and hardcore. Awesome. I want this on my wall ;-)
From a solely palette based point of view, these colors work great with each other and the different textures make each piece stand out in significance. Speaking through fashion, I love the minimal approach to accessories that still speak volumes about the outfit as a whole. I just hope she is wearing a good shoe! Mr. Schuman, I frequent your site but rarely comment. Pictures such as these show your true appreciation for the human condition and artistic command. Thanks for the daily pick-me-ups.
Hey Sart! I know that heaps of people have asked what shoes she’s wearing — are they biker boots? I seem to remember you saying that you don’t like them as they chop off a person’s legs mid-calf (at the widest and most unflattering part of the leg) and wonder is that why you cropped them out? I reckon that given her leather fingerless gloves, biker boots might suit her….share Sart, it’s killing me!
P.S. Come to Sydney to see colours like this every day of the year!
I love your site and this is why – so full of style & color & the photography is just fantastic. But, living in Hilo, Hawaii, I had to laugh, thinking of doing a similar blog here. You just wouldn’t believe what passes for fashion here, tourists and residents alike. Actually, it’s not a bad idea….
I love how she was being unconventional and just threw these vibrant colors together. The scarf is a beautiful touch, and I would kill to see what shoes she were wearing.
i agree with what sean watson said. the first thing i thought when i saw this was, “wow, that looks so african” from the colours and their combination to the billowines of the fabric and even the proportions and the gold accent of her jewellery. especially with that beautiful dark skin – it makes me think of western africa in particular. simply stunning.
Oh, I wish we had more women using colour in this manner in Paris. Visually she is taking a risk, but she pulls it off superbly (which makes it all the more impressive). Here women still rely on black (they almost drown in it) to make a statement: this just sings with the promise of a hazy summer…
Are you listening, Paris? Stop taking yourself so seriously and splash on some colour!
Great mix to go with her complexion. Me (a pale redhead) could never wear this colour mix – but I could completely do this look in browns, greys and greens.
Black is generally a cop-out from true creativity and the work (and expense)of putting together an outfit that really co-ordinates. It is boring 99% of the time.
I think the biker gloves speak volumes about her personality, and I’m so glad she wore them. They take her outfit to another level. They say, “I may be pretty and cheerful, but there’s more to me than that.”
The colours are stunning, but no one has pointed out the weight of the garments, which I think is part of why it works so well… There is a translucent, gauzy quality to the scarf and even the jacket that makes the colours work together so much better than if they had been blocks of solid colour. It just lightens the whole thing up. Beautiful!
When I see this photo I see a modern Wonderwoman. She pulls of the bright color coordination nicely. I think she would have been a great avant-garde Wonderwoman better dressed than some of the safer choices at the recent Superhero Exhibit party at the MET..
I have to comment, even days later: this is an utterly fantastic look!! First thing I thought is that she must be a model, but then again, maybe she’s just an incredibly creative and stylish normal being; gasp at the possibility!!
she is simply stunning. I love the play of bright colors against dark skin. I can now undestand why desingers like to use dark skin against light colors.
love love love this. the bright colors against her beautiful dark skin is wonderful. i sometimes feel like i look suffocated with too much around my neck, but she pulls off all that material well.

I love the fact that she’s used color and minimal texture (from what I can see in the photo) to create such a striking, original look.
She didn’t need to pile on a million patterns, bangles, accessories, tights or other random things to get it.
Only thing: her face doesn’t get as much attention as it should but it might be the light…
