I love when things look this good and you can see how simple it is. Jeans and a jacket that fits.
I love patterns like herringbone, check, and houndstooth. I wish someone would put together a nice HowTo for mixing the patterns without looking overworked.

This look is beautiful! It’s subtle, casual yet elegant, and the bag is serious hotness!

The bag, this fit, wonderful
The skinny tie is my favorite thing.
great color for him and the bag even better.
October 15, 2008 at 8:48 am
Of course herringbone looks great with denim! As does tweed too!
October 15, 2008 at 8:51 am
WOW. the fitting of the jacket ist fantastic !!! thats really a masterpiece of art.
great look. from the herringbone/denim combo to the handkerchief to the tie clip — it all works so well. i want that bag, too.

Gorgeous jacket—-cut and fabric!Maintaining tight color coordination between the tie, the jacket and the tote allows the extra degree of freedom in pairing this ensemble with jeans. Nice.

Is that a woman’s bag? Arrrrg

Great jacket! Love the attention to detail and the casualness of his outfit (unbuttoned oxford collar). I am jealous, I wish it was my outfit!!
October 15, 2008 at 9:31 am
I’ll be frank: I don’t like the bag. But everything else is stunning. I especially like how the tie complements the jacket
October 15, 2008 at 9:38 am
Subtel, sexy and elegant..amazing photo in fact!

Hey Anonymous –
That’s not a woman’s bag, it’s a human’s bag. I want to know where to buy it.
This guy is as crisp as they come, while still looking casual. I love the equestrian-looking jacket. The angled pockets – and especially the inclusion of a ticket pocket – really set it off.
I might do this jacket with a turtleneck, or a open spread collar shirt with an ascot or a scarf in a small paisley or a foulard. Maybe splash on a little Acqua di Parma (or Aqua Velva), then go to L’Express or La Goulue, and chill.
This is a timeless look.

Nice outfit which somehow makes me think country more than city. The herringbone and denim is a good combination. I like the simple palette with its’ touches of white white- beautiful handkerchief. What’s the tie made of? It almost looks like suede. The width and texture of it work well with the style and proportions of the jacket even though it would not be my favorite under other circumstances. I have to finally say I really dislike these huge bags especially when they completely dominate a look, as they often do. It’s not so bad here with the mix of textures but he’d still look better without it.

It’s Ralph Lauren head to toe.Bravo Stephen!
October 15, 2008 at 10:14 am
What a well-fitted jacket! He looks great.

A classic that’s always in good taste.

The jacket is a great statement for the fall in NYC a little heavier weight. Also I like his bag, moving away from the messenger bag and saving his jacket shouolders.
October 15, 2008 at 10:45 am
I like the Mad Men vibe of his attire. The color of the bag coordinates well with his tie. Too bad the silhouette of his bag wasn’t more masculine.
October 15, 2008 at 10:53 am
That bag looks interesting. I have been looking for a new laptop bag, and have been wondering if a tote like bag can be masculine and comfortable?
October 15, 2008 at 11:00 am
Fantastic, the fit of the jeans is compliments the profile of the sports coat.
October 15, 2008 at 11:24 am
I love the jacket, tie, glasses, pocket square, jeans…everything is so good….EXCEPT THE BAG. Instantly the look moves from sexy Dad to fashion nerd.
Maybe it’s a pet peeve but it feels like now that women have got over the tent-sized handbag, men have decided it’s their turn. Who needs a precious leather bag this size? – I’m guessing he’s not a chic plumber.
October 15, 2008 at 11:30 am
Ja’dore!!!! tailored perfection!
October 15, 2008 at 11:52 am
It rare to see such herringbone with denim combination in nyc..good!!!!!!!
October 15, 2008 at 11:54 am
Will this work without the tie? -thanks.

As mentioned, the coherence of the various browns (all of which match well with the denim hue) brings the outfit together beautifully. The tie is especially nice.
October 15, 2008 at 12:27 pm
its an aero bag… and they are great!
October 15, 2008 at 12:32 pm
You can get that bag at AERO on Broome Street in SoHo
October 15, 2008 at 12:39 pm
im really averse to that color. The color of the jacket that is. Love the deep copper sheen of the tie. I do also think the fit is great and the bag is to die for.
October 15, 2008 at 12:48 pm
i thought jeans and jacket were a big no-no?
October 15, 2008 at 12:59 pm

Will someone tell Mr. Herringbone that he’s carrying his Mom’s tote bag?
Otherwise, good look.
October 15, 2008 at 1:42 pm
The leather tote..HOT. Nice combination. Relaxed dress.
October 15, 2008 at 2:28 pm
This is what I’m talking about. Thank you for posting this. This is a true definition of sartorial. Look at the way that jacket fits this gentleman and he is also well groomed with all right accesories to make the outfit work. Sart, you’re big time now and you can really influence the dress code with your success. The majority of men do not have the ability to dress themselves and they need guidance and assistance. Keep posting this type of photos and would like to see more Italian Preppy in the near future. Thank you.

That’s quite a different look for Rob Lowe! He still looks good!
October 15, 2008 at 2:54 pm
My,he is too good to be true.I like his unshaved face and the haircut. The jacket fits perfectly and the colors ,white and leather mix nicely. Actually everything is almost too perfect. A fine picture.
October 15, 2008 at 3:03 pm
the jacket YES! the bag, no…
October 15, 2008 at 3:30 pm
would love to see the shoes he wore with that. the bag is not my cup of tea but the schoolteacher tote is in vogue these days for gents.
the look is very, very smart…love it…shot is like “I wan’t to touch the jacket”
October 15, 2008 at 3:38 pm
beautiful jacket – it just fits so well. love the colour palette and textures. doesn’t scream for your attention, but wow, once it’s grabbed it all the wonderful little details just keep pulling you in, don’t they?

October 15, 2008 at 9:46 pm
My G-d this man is beautiful. He looks almost as if he were born dressed this way. A true sartorialist.
October 15, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Wow, the tie, the glasses and the jacket.. perfecto! Do you have his number? ;)
October 16, 2008 at 12:19 am
L.L. Bean used to sell a bag very much like that. It was for carrying firewood.
Wicked nice fabric on that jacket, though.
October 16, 2008 at 5:11 am
i like his shirt lapels, but the bag isn’t masculine enough for him.
October 16, 2008 at 9:59 am
he’s looking neat! everything fits perfectly! but i would love to see his shoes…
October 16, 2008 at 10:56 am
Is there a name for the tab on the left lapel? I bought a similar jacket at a thrift store this week, and it had one too, with a corresponding button hidden under the other lapel. I assume that’s for buttoning up in cold weather?
October 16, 2008 at 11:57 am
The bag is from Aero, Thomas O’Brien’s store in Soho, NYC. http://www.aerostudios.comIt comes in several colors. I have one, and I love it. They offer shipping if you want to call and order one.

October 18, 2008 at 3:51 pm
I second that.. this really is just another day in his wardrobe, and proof that he is simply a master at mixing the right materials and pieces to create the look that suits his mood and the atmosphere of any given day.
October 19, 2008 at 1:09 am
evocative of another era, a little bit Gatsby-esque.and i must admit, i am a sucker for a handsome man in glasses.the bag is beautiful, but i do find it slightly too similar to a women’s tote. perhaps something a little less structured would do the trick, the the color of the leather is absolute perfection.
October 19, 2008 at 7:01 am
His clothes fit him so well. And love that man bag.
October 20, 2008 at 4:28 am
Very sharp looking jacket, I like.

November 4, 2008 at 1:09 am
Is this gentleman with the fablous coat wearing black(!)pants? If yes, than forget about it all. An absolute no no,IMHO! The undone button down shirt is cute.It looks to me as if upstairs has been carefully put together until he blew it with very dark pants.xavier
