this is not actually considered ‘nice’ in a conservative sense. these two photos got a similar silhouettes, as if there is actually someone out there that was made to look like a cartoon character. she emphasized this fact by wearing out-of-this-world wardrobes [not each piece is, mind you, but the overall effect... excluding the shoes... they're just hands-down mindboggling.] i don’t know if i supposed to write this or not, but if i met her in the real world, i might smile + fall in love with her. on the spot.
I love her looks! So whimsical, but you can see very practical. She can wear a flirty dress and not worry about any exposure issues while she’s moving around. Very nice. She looks to be comfortable in her own skin. I hope she smiles now and then.
The boots in the first one… amazing. I’ve been looking at thrift stores around here for some sort of boot like that. So pauper-looking, but so perfect.
Isn’t this the same photographer we see in the background photographing the pouting princess in a previous post? I get the feeling of obsession here. Obsession with making photos, with presenting herself to the world – throught the use of proportion and delicate fabrics- as a little bitty miserable person who must me successful and noticed.
I love this interest in capturing other photographers. Fascinating stuff.
This woman here is really playing the (broken?) doll card. I admire her dressing-up sensibility, even though she looks bizarre (especially due to the shoes).
I just fell of my chair….wow ! I simply adore her dress/skirt/tunique in the second picture…the material looks fragile just like she does…love the shoes on her too …Anyone else would look ridiculous but some people can wear anything… As for the picture on top : she IS a woman on top …I love embroidered patterns, her top makes me think about the fabrics the Oilily collections used to have in the 80′ies….
the camera is a Fuji GA645 Professional medium format rangefinder camera. The negative is 6 x 4.5 cm big. I have the 6 x 9 cm version. EXCELLENT image quality but they have been discontinued.
it is interesting to see how she is wearing the same skirt I have as a top in the first pic. it is quite malvelous to see how clothes get new life according to who is wearing it!!
I love the skirt she is wearing like a necklace almost in the top photo. It looks like it is an old piece of Hmong embroidery, or by another ethnic group in the mountainous areas of Southeast Asia or southern China.
This is a time when you see someone who has thier "uniform"
I just don't like her habits in layering.
Is this style or habit?
Habit"
Ah, but a quirky, out-there habit can be quite revealing in a way that simple mastery of style may not. You can have great style that says nothing about the wearer; the fashionistas you see who work in the business can put together the perfect edgy, androgynous, punky look one day and the next, show up in some flirty, feminine dress and sky-high heels and pull off each outfit perfectly in the process because they know how to work proportion, color, &c. But they don't make a forceful individualist statement in the process. Now, that's just fine, because people are complex and dynamic and multifaceted and self-contradictory, and it's all a completely honest reflection of themselves.
However, I find the odd and uncommon, perhaps even "extreme," quirks to be the most engaging. If you work the same unusual silhouette or layering pattern or color pallet or what-have-you all the time, it says something about what makes you unique… and it's nice to see people being different.
It's entirely possible that this is just the result of a childhood full of cartoons conditioning me to love uniform-like, unusual styles that reveal something about the nature of the characer 8D
Rei is more then OK. She is a successful happy social individual. This is evident as time goes on and she looks years younger then her age and more active then most people. A testament to the fact that being thin isn’t unhealthy as some bigger people would like to believe.
it’s not neat and chic but still lovely all the same. it’s probably not “thrown together” either, but i love the fabrics and the shoes and the proportion. she looks like a little doll.
the expression though, it’s not sad per se but something else…
If the asymmetrical pant length is intentional, kudos to her. That would be interesting and impressive. The fact that I’m not sure about the intentionality, however, is not so good.
I have not posted any of the comments about this young ladies weight because it is simply something we cannot really know about for sure.
I do think it is a valid discussion but not one that i am comfortable having on this blog.
all I know is that I saw her around all week during the shows and she was very animated and physical in doing her job. In the photos I took of her, she took on those poses as an expression of her persona. It was the way she wanted to present herself in photos, she was always very smiley when i was around her – I don’t pretend to understand why she takes on this persona but that is not up to me.
Trying to figure out how to deal with these issues is , by far, the most difficult part in running this blog. I hope you understand
hi scott she has always been my favorite on your blog. I would love to the the photos she takes. Do you know where I could look at them? thanks so much anoushka
i love her individualistic way of dressing ..she not completely out of sync to be labeled a total disaster but she completely individualizes it ..n the BOOTS ..they add so much to her .. shes like a funky caricature i would draw to show case an out fit and then the boots would completely complete the whole “look” shes her ..and not a fashionista..shes an individualist..
the layers are well put together i so wish i could be like that unchanging with seasons..and have a style which people recognise to be “me” yet not be a way out non-fashion follower! shes the cutest!!

I like that she has a look
but I do not think it makes her attractive at ALL
It looks like she created a habit of wearing layers.
Style seems secondary here.
