I love the selective focusing in this shot. The little scarf in the front pocket looks great! You captured a great moment there again Scott, thanks for sharing :)
Yes, I want to sit down to have a coffee and chat with this man. His hat looks ever so slightly feminine but the rest of his outfit balances it. And, I don't typically like turtlenecks on men but he wears it so nicely. Elegant and masculine. And the tattoo on his wrist…
my own prejudice I admit, but are you a neatlty tailored kleen guy or a scruffy Grateful Dead guy? I know, I know some say you can be both but for me the contradiction is too strong. Boys under twelve can pull it off because we know their moms made them dress up.
I love guys in turtleneck sweaters, and I love this jacket. I love the details, like the cut of the lapel and the popped collar, and the front pocket. The blue and white of the handkerchief contrasts nicely against the neutrals he's wearing. Love the hat, too! Is it a fedora with the brim turned up?
His facial hair is perfectly trimmed, too. Not out-of-control.
Hola!!sigo tu blog desde hace tiempo, y ahora me he animado yo a hacer uno, y me gustaría que te pasaras y si te gusta que lo siguieras, un besazo!!!:) http://ohmylookbook.blogspot.com/
beautiful; he looks very handsome. he looks very well put together, without trying. i doubt he really did try…which is the beauty behind any great look. naturally done. A bearded, dark haired man in a great hat/coat with a kerchief? Who can resist?
Great photograph, portrait quality. I love the hat, the coat, and especially the traditional "cowboy" handkerchief folded into the pocket. Great look, very sexy. I'm thinking Italian tonight. Love the softened foreground with all the color and the intensely dark young man behind. Fantastic!
The outfit is so casual yet put together – perfect for this afternoon (?) setting. I especially like the detail of the pocket bandana, and the hat is a good choice for this man. However, since when is it polite to leave a hat on at a restaurant/café, while drinking/eating? Maybe the rules are different in Italy, maybe it's time to re-define them.
Beautiful Photos! The expression this man is potraying allows the viewer the ability to describe the scene is so many different ways! What is he thinking about? Who is he looking at? Is he scared…happy?
Very nice in just about every way, barring my usual rant about the importance of good pressing. His coat lapels need a little work. But heck, I'd sit down with him and spend the afternoon going through that pastry selection.
I like the coat with square pocket. But a gentlemen NEVER stays inside with the hat on, and NEVER when eating or drinking. It is not just what you wear, but how do you wear it!!
I really appreciate your post and you explain each and every point very well. Thanks for sharing this information. And I’ll love to read your next post too.
i'm digging the whole look. effortless. everything just falls into place, facial hair and curly locks included. wish the weather here in the philippines would allow me to sport a coat like that.
incredibly handsome. love bearded men… and with a carefree, yet tailored style? even better. he can hold his own among sugar cookies and jasmine tea. so masculine in the best sense of the word! ;)

He looks very dapper but am I too old in thinking a gentleman takes his hat off when seated inside? If he is a a counter, I understand, but I dislike men in hat indoors. What is the latest thinking on men's hat, Mr. Schulman?
I've been living in Italian for 2 years now and have only used Milan as a stop over on my way to France, but I will soon be spending a few days there! If there was ever a place to find info on the 'what's-what' of Milano it would be here! Question A. Where is this cafe, should I go? Ques. B. The fun shopping is where!?
Come on…no need to get og the hat and coat, he is just probably enjoying a quick, dark and short but intense italian espresso before going bakc to whatever he is doing (not a half-gallon Starbucks coffee you need an hour to drink…)P ;)
Darlings. It's Italy. He is standing at a counter having a quick coffee. No need to remove the hat in such circumstances. It's as good as being "outdoors".
I think this photo is perfect. Your skills as a portraitist are amazing. He looks perfectly natural and yet, elegant. It's hard to believe you got him mid-sip yet it is so composed as a photo. Bravo.
swoon… there is something artistic emanating from his look. indeed suggests an interesting character who would have lots to say about – and way beyond – fashion. bene!
oh yes, my apologies – fantastic photograph, Mr. Schuman. i forgot to mention that in my last post, but that is the true mark of a great photograph, no? you lose yourself in the photograph and your imagination moves right into the moment. that said, props to the photographer and his stories!
Gentlemen, please, take off your hats when you go indoors (even if the hat is sooo cool) and your coats when you sit at a table. I think this is also part of being cool.
His name is Lukas Haas, he's an American actor (Inception, Witness) and one of my personal hearthrobs for years and years. Good to see he's got some flare of his own!
What is with you people and this stiff-lipped "indoor" manners you speak of? Rules are made to be broken. Think outside the box.

I was taught that it is lack of manors a man to use a hat while inside a place or eating.
Anyway congratulations for a wonderful blog.

swoon… there is something artistic emanating from his look. indeed suggests an interesting character who would have lots to say about – and way beyond – fashion. bene!

oh yes, my apologies – fantastic photograph, Mr. Schuman. i forgot to mention that in my last post, but that is the true mark of a great photograph, no? you lose yourself in the photograph and your imagination moves right into the moment. that said, props to the photographer and his stories!

Chic yes, but a gentleman removes his hat indoors…..so it's contrived….

I love the beard and the the hair and the hat… He looks just a tiny bit as a bum but there's no chance mistaking him.

Love the coat! And I love the moment you captured…the cup almost touching his lips…anticipation frozen in an image.
