I’m not sure about this outfit. It’s an art student kinda outfit. She looks a bit to mature for it. And I can’t quite figure out what’s happening around her feet! Is she wearing socks over those tights?
She looks great! If i had seen each item of clothing individually i would said it could never work but i’m clearly very wrong. The lipstick and sharp haircut are what pulls it together for me.
Sarah looks beautiful, as always. Yes, I agree with Randy – you should take a little trip to Canada. I’m sure I can think of another London that might delight your eye.
you know, i agree with everyone in that the whole outfit works.. it’s great! but i hate, hate, hate the socks over the tights/leggings. and if her shoes were a little more polished, the way her face/hair is, the whole thing would work so much better!
Why the socks with the tights? That don’t make no sense to me. Why not red socks? Just asking. Other than that the look is great, esp the red lipstick, wish I could wear red lipstick!
OK. If you do come to Canada I would definitely skip London, Ontario, contrary to that other poster’s suggestion. :) Is no one else seeing a young Julie Andrews in that face? I’m loving the dance shoes paired with the lumberjacket. Growing up in Toronto the boys who hung out in their basements playing Dungeons and Dragons wore coats like that with cutoff jeans. She’s really working the 80s with great humour.
i see lots of celebs trying to do the shorts over tights look and failing miserably. they should take a cue from her. i’m not sure what exactly makes it work but it does
THis is so amazing that you’re posting this today, because I’ve been wearing a buffalo checked coat for the past few winters — it’s a real Woolrich hunting jacket complete with gun sleeve in the back. And I love it!
But just the other day I decided to pair it with a bright red lipstick and it changed everything — from geek-chic to just plain chic! This girl knew it all along!
I get a lot of compliments on it, and I wear it with everything, but it looks best as I did it today with a pencil skirt, black tights, and boots.
every now and then i catch a glimpse of buffalo plaid and wonder if it could make a comeback. with this photo, this style, the answer is a resounding YES. it’s another reinvention that i will try to use myself. thanks sart.
We used to call this type of plaid coat “the Kenora dinner jacket.” (Kenora being a small town in northern Ontario, and just north of Minnesota.)
Needless to say, it’s been turned into something elegant here, mostly because of those gorgeous looooong legs. Not sure about the rolled up denim shorts, however.
My first reaction was, “non j’aime pas ca du tout”, but her beautiful legs, her elegance, and her face redeem her and I can appreciate this outfit on her. Anyone else with a less striking physique might look, hmm, average?
Gosh I love her! Her ‘don’t care what they think’ attitute is what makes this outfit work. Those shorts! and those socks! I couldn’t wear that. I love her. Elizabeth.
I think her haircut is superb, great eyebrows too. I think she would look absolutely superb if you replaced the denim shorts with a short, black wool skirt.
This could be one of the very best ways to wear a winter-y jacket and shorts in the wintertime in LA when there’s really no “winter.” I see she’s layered the buffalo plaid over a blazer. The only thing I’d change to adapt to LA environs is I’d layer a vest instead of a blazer just for comfort’s sake.
London! Finally! Although you’re not the definitive chronicler of fashion, it’s great to see something other than bourgeois hunting tweeds. (Why do people wear that in the city?) Take a turn by Copenhagen one of these days for some amazingly eclectic fashion!
I met her at L’Oreal Fashion Week back in October and she is so pretty. She was wearing awesome lace tights with ripped denim shorts. I’m definitely going to check out her blog.
P.S. Scott, please come up to Toronto. Fashion week starts March 16th up here… *nod nod wink wink*
