I don't like much dark colors in the sun. The mix with the pastel top is a bit weird, but it works on her. I love the hat. I always wear a Panama hat when it's sunny. It's a style that's ok with pants, unlike other kinds of straw hats.
What is that in her hand? An iron, a defibrillator? You have to have a lot of personality and confidence to wear that kind of diversity with style and pizazz. I'm not sure it completely works. It just looks a bit too eccentric.
Fab outfit. I love the casual look with the crumbled vest and the grey heather top in its simplicity. The pants are perfect match to the general outfit.
I simply don't understand someone needing attention by putting together an unfathomable ensemble. The worst of this are the comments from other readers. I don't believe she put thought into this mess. It doesn't "work," as many have stated.
Beautiful girl (great pose too), great summer hat, but the light voluminous neutrals on top with the dark graphic pants and shoes just does not work. I love eclectic style, but this is just totally out of balance.
This image is perfect. She looks relaxed, happy and effortlessly stylish. I would do bad things to get my hands on that tank top and those pumps! This may well be the first and last time I ever say this, but I actually LIKE her sweat-pant style trousers. They work well with this look. X
I like the light. I love her expression and her posture, how she carries herself. She looks at ease.
When I take notice of what she's actually wearing, I wonder if it's Laundry Day. (Hipsters! I know.) But she's pretty, and she's posing as though she were dressed for a wedding. It makes for a really arresting, inspiring shot.
When I was in high school I wore my dad's army dress pants to high school. He would've killed me if he had known so I snuck 'em outta the house by wearing a pair of jeans over them. I had no idea I was so cutting edge.
This picture is a good reflection on why classic lines and style always works while being trendy just looks pretentious. She clearly know how to pose well and she is is physically attractive but there are so many things off about her outfit, the bagginess of the shirt that is then tucked in. the clashes is all the wrong ways of the colours. The only keepers are the hat and the cardigan she has on.
Thank you for giving those of us sweltering in NYC something that looks a little cool! She's like a sail in the wind.
P.S. I also like it that she doesn't seem to be wearing a bra. As a woman, I can attest that getting rid of that one layer–usually made of nylon, poly, and other not terribly cool fabrics–can feel so good on a hot day.
The pants seem a little too pretencious to me. But somehow everything on her worked together and made a unique style of her own. Maybe the gray unpretenciou T-shirt balanced the pants.
The pants have to be from a band uniform. haha I know from experience :]but I have to say it's a very eclectic look. The bottom half is harsh and the top soft. Nonetheless, It's very humorous and well put together. I want that hat!
We've seen her on your blog before, no? She seems like a highly creative soul with a strong connection to the past whose style is inspired more by memories and aesthetics and art than by runways or magazines. I adore her approach to dressing.
In some ways this is anti-fashion, the pants with the stripe, the crumpled jacket together, when one is formal band wear and the other is cruise wear. The tee doesn't seem to fit into the whole thing at all, and yet… She doesn't dress formulaically at all, but she does stand out as well dressed. Everyone is saying how much they adore this look but I don't. I would have preferred loose grey pants with this, but then, how would she have worn the gold jacket with it?
Just bought that hat, or one very similar to it, at Edie Hats in Vancouver to cover my post-chemo hair. So this is a nice surprise! Can't beat a classic Panama. And my guess is, she doesn't much care if some of us don't like her outfit. :-)
i think the possibility that she put very little thought into this outfit makes it that much more appealing, and perhaps most of the reason why it "works."
The clothes are so secondary to this picture, all I can see is the woman. Her character just explodes down the lens. The pose? The expression?… Who knows?.. Its that thing that keeps us all hooked..
I adore everything but the pant, absolutely hate the pant, looks like a sweatpants and a marching band uniforms lovechild, besides everything is so flowy and soft the contrast with the heavyness of the pant is a bit much
I'm a bit over fedoras (i'm just jealous 'cause my heads shape can't take any hats) and the pants are a bit heavy for that fresh summer vibe, i like the colour i would have just done maybe a lighter fabric, something that moved like the blouse
I love those marching band pants! Those are hard to find! (even vintage hunting) Fabulous picture! And hats off to her for great style even in the summer heat! xo The Beckerman Girls
I love her combined style look. Her shoes look so like Jackie O. but without completely becoming a copy of the icon, she makes the look her own. It is wonderful.
Such confidence! I love the movement in this shot with the fabric from her sweater blowing in the wind and the fabric of her pants. Is she posing or keeping her hat from blowing away?! Very fun shot! I wish I knew what book she is reading! I would love to spend a day in that outfit, looks like something I could have confidence in too, but be free and relaxed at the same time!
she has a great presence, but it's a little all over the place- in a bad way. if you cropped her head off and ignored the cardigan and flats, it looks like something you would wear while lying on the couch vegging out to the television.
I feel that this photo really is a prime example of why Europeans berate our style sense here in America. The heavy thrift-store marching band pants paired with much lighter materials on top and the straw hat… it is kind of a serious mess. And the shoes would look so beautiful with a pretty skirt — every piece seems to be fighting to stand out more.. and seriously detract from her very pretty face.
Interesting here how the textiles have become simple accidents (in the Latin sense of the word) expressing that young woman's relaxed mood & self conscious personality. Pointless to talk about brands or matching colors here. What a wonderful moment, what a beautiful mood. Makes my European appreciation of NYC even greater.
Ack! How cool to see some military dress blue pants tailored perfectly for a woman… I'm very used to only seeing my husband in such pants. This shot instantly made me go "a-ha! awesome!"… maybe I will have to steal a pair of his dress blue pants that no longer fit & make them my own ;)
This works on her, in fact looks fabulous on her. I will never understand fashion. But in my lack of understanding, I am becoming more and more certain that an outfit being good or bad is because of the wearer, not the outfit itself.
What a great outfit. I would love to have those pants. They would look amazing with tons of things. I think they are Army dress blues. in fact its obvious that they are. I am sure a surplus store will have them. If I see them, i know I will buy them. Funny how its such an obvious simple outfit, but I would have never thought of it. Something to think about for the upcoming cooler weather.

What a symbiosis. This look really comes together. I love it. And are those Persona Beads?

I rather detest this look. Each piece is competing, with no cohesion as a whole, even her stance is competing with the clothes.

Makes my European appreciation of NYC even greater.

i love the androgynous look; the pants, the slouchy tee, the hat, and her haircut..but with feminine touches like the ballet flats.

It's fine from the waist up but those pants are just gross-very unflattering.
