What a wonderful hair style. Love the black and white outfit, the white trim at the hem of the skirt, and the extra-long sleeves used as a muff. It’s nice to see comfortable flat shoes for a change.
April 13, 2009 at 10:31 am
Love, love, love the entire outfit! I wish I could see what type of bag she is wearing. Does anyone know where she got these shoes? Is the skirt actually two skirts? Adorable!
April 13, 2009 at 10:33 am
Nice haircut. But I think her clothing could be more flattering.
April 13, 2009 at 10:36 am
Love her hairstyle… and the whole classic look!
April 13, 2009 at 10:38 am
wow! so ethnic and chic!i love her taste
April 13, 2009 at 10:40 am
Love how her hair sweeps across her face. Very feminine.
April 13, 2009 at 10:42 am
I like her haircut, kisses.
April 13, 2009 at 10:43 am
the pose complements the look perfectly.. so beautiful.
April 13, 2009 at 10:47 am
ohhh her hair suits her outfit so well!
April 13, 2009 at 10:50 am
An example where a great haircut makes all the difference.
April 13, 2009 at 10:54 am
she is so beautiful, she reminds me of a japanese geisha

there is just something special about her…
April 13, 2009 at 11:18 am
Wow! What a stunning beauty! Her style shows a lot of personality which is very important in my eyes. Moreover that asymmetrical, fashionable haircut fits her perfectly. Love it! It’s awesome, indeed.
April 13, 2009 at 11:24 am
elegance par excellence!
April 13, 2009 at 11:30 am
Everything about this is absolutely gorgeous.
April 13, 2009 at 11:35 am
She looks wonderful, and especially against the warm tones of the reddish brick and stone.
As a silhouette I find it a little less than it could be–although this may have to do with the pose. One wants a little more narrowness at the bottom to balance the bulk of the cardigan. But if she were to stand differently, or walk or sit, the skirt might conform to her body more, and provide that relief to the eye. Anyway a good example of an Asian woman working her look, and taking advantage of Japanese design.
April 13, 2009 at 12:08 pm
I really love her hair
April 13, 2009 at 12:22 pm
i love this photo, that cardigan is perfect.
April 13, 2009 at 12:33 pm
God I love this shot. Something about her expression and her arms, the DOF, and the angles of the building.

April 13, 2009 at 12:36 pm
Wow, so clean..
April 13, 2009 at 12:37 pm
ooh ! I love how the red brick wall makes her and her clothes stand out more.
April 13, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Stunning hair and stance.
April 13, 2009 at 12:52 pm
I like this one, except for the hair style.
It’s nice to see the modern take on traditional styles. Or is it traditional styles using modern garments? Which ever, it works.
April 13, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Oh no! I don’t like the outfit at all. It’s SO unstructured. I love an unstructured voluminous outfit but this is just unflattering. But I love her hair and she is a beautiful gal, who turns heads for sure.
April 13, 2009 at 1:09 pm
wow. she looks remarkable. the hair is AMAZING. women can be much more seductive when covered up.
for me, this type of modesty and grace = true style.
April 13, 2009 at 1:12 pm
with that haircut, she could make anything work. it doesn’t hurt though that she’s wearing a great cardi!
April 13, 2009 at 1:15 pm
The picture captures a chilled, silent kind of mood. Simple color, simple lines, stripes on a sweater. Spare is good.
April 13, 2009 at 1:18 pm
i love everything about this photo, especially her hair and skirt. the girl is beautiful, she looks so serene and elegant. for me, there’s something very unexpected about this image, i feel very surprised – in a really good way!
April 13, 2009 at 1:20 pm
Love the haircut and the colors (black & white) of the outfit…
April 13, 2009 at 1:31 pm
love her hair, she is very pretty
April 13, 2009 at 1:42 pm

April 13, 2009 at 2:19 pm
I love how her hair adds the necessary structure to this outfit! What a lovely gal.
thimbles and gingham
April 13, 2009 at 2:29 pm
she looks so graceful. like a ballerina.
April 13, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Whaouuuuu ! j’adore cette élégance simple !
April 13, 2009 at 3:01 pm
First off her hair looks fantastic. Very chic. Secondly, I love her outfit. It’s very difficult to pull this off as there is no tailoring and can create a shapeless figure but she successfully looks charming and stylish in a carefree and subtle way. Very knowingly breaking the concept of fashion and it’s ridiculous ‘rules’. I say thumbs up!
April 13, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Beautiful. The hair, face, placement of her feet and the whole modern take on a classical contrapposta really add so much to this image aside from the clothing.
April 13, 2009 at 3:14 pm
An (ex) alien in new york
April 13, 2009 at 3:22 pm
The haircut, the lighting and the attitude. That’s what makes this.
April 13, 2009 at 3:34 pm
great black-white coordination. the hair goes perfectly with the outfit.. and look at those lips… pure beauty
April 13, 2009 at 3:45 pm
I like that you can see her black Peds peeking at the edges of her flats..
that’s how I wear mine too.
April 13, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Stunning. Obviously she is very beautiful, but I also love her short hair, off-white stiped cardi, long skirt, the trim on the skirt (swoon!) and the flat shoes. She looks incredible and unique but also comfortable and practical – a remarkable achievement.
April 13, 2009 at 4:29 pm
love her face and hair the most in this pic!
April 13, 2009 at 4:43 pm
The photo is stunning.
She is way past fashionable or stylish. She has something few people have. She’s positively elegant. Who can pull that off these days?
April 13, 2009 at 4:59 pm
Composed and graceful, femininity defined. Btw she is not a geisha.
April 13, 2009 at 5:11 pm
lovely pic, she has an amazing haircut!
April 13, 2009 at 5:16 pm
The outfit overwhelms her figure and it gives her body no semblance of shape. Can’t even imagine how odd it would look from the back. But with amazing hair like that, I forgive all.
April 13, 2009 at 5:34 pm
aw, look at her little footie socks! She looks comfortable and elegant.
April 13, 2009 at 5:36 pm
pretty, like a painting
April 13, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Wow. Comfortable, quiet and delicate details, sophisticated, textural, soft yet strong, unexpectedly chic. She’s knows she’s going against the trends, and it seems to make her even more stylish. I love how her sleeves have become a muffler. Her clothes are loose, unstructured, and yet they oddly convey a powerful sense of structure to me. She looks like a work of art. Her clothes are hiding her body and yet you get the impression that a beautiful female form lies beneath. Her hair–what a flattering, modern foil to the rest. I don’t know if she could pull off the look so effectively without that cut. I love, love, love this blog, but this is the first post I’ve ever replied to. Something about her look speaks to me in the most pleasant way. Perfect.
April 13, 2009 at 5:54 pm
How beautiful she is! And her hair, wow, can she pull it off perfectly!
April 13, 2009 at 6:15 pm
oh I love this. She looks so serene and lovely. Her hair is perfect for her face and the whole energy of the photo is just spectacular.
April 13, 2009 at 6:19 pm

Wow im not sure why but i am totally amazed by this picture
the girl looks so graceful and natural, like she knows who she is…im envious!!!!!
plus her hair is so majorly cuteeee!!!!!
April 13, 2009 at 8:48 pm
I so enjoyed the suspense about the skirt length as I scrolled down to view the photo for the first time. It did work at many skirt-length positions . . .
April 13, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Sublime! This girl is art! What a look, and what a cool demeanor!
April 13, 2009 at 9:54 pm
She looks like a dancer.. the way her feet is poised. So graceful. Sometimes it’s not what you wear. Really, it’s just who you are.
April 13, 2009 at 10:27 pm
Very pretty. I love the whole look!
April 13, 2009 at 10:48 pm
the lovely haircut reads as a touch grown-out/shaggy but nice nonetheless. the outfit is fine, it’s the pose that makes it work and even so, I’m still opposed to the footie-socks showing.
April 13, 2009 at 11:00 pm
This is incredible. There is something about the way her skirt echoes the shape of her hair that is just stunningly subtle. Not to mention her face is absolutely gorgeous.
April 13, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Monastic chic. Fabulous.
April 13, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Completely elegant and completely wear-able. Brava!!!
April 13, 2009 at 11:26 pm
I hope this inspires an exploration of how long skirts can be very sexy.
April 13, 2009 at 11:29 pm
I want to follow her around and see what she wears every day. Love her!
April 13, 2009 at 11:41 pm

April 13, 2009 at 11:54 pm

Thanks for finding…and sharing!

April 14, 2009 at 5:26 am
what are people wearing in Harlem?
April 14, 2009 at 5:31 am
For me, this pic is all about her hair. The cut is beautiful. The shape of her skirt is interesting but much too long in length. Although I really love her sweater even though it is a bit oversized too.
April 14, 2009 at 6:02 am
yohji would be pleased.
April 14, 2009 at 6:34 am
I love this style!nice haircut.
April 14, 2009 at 7:19 am
i like how you caught her pout and yust a half of her eye!
April 14, 2009 at 8:21 am
She looks in harmony. Her style, her serene attitude… her clothes just fuse with her aura/personality.

April 14, 2009 at 10:13 am
Love the oversized cardi, and her hair style is perfection!
April 14, 2009 at 10:15 am
Great boyfriend cardie, she looks so chic.
April 14, 2009 at 10:17 am
Oh, I would say she got the feeling of those Chinese around 1919.
April 14, 2009 at 10:18 am
this reminds me of the great minimal styles that came from Japan in the 80′s – perfectly updated and easy to live in.
April 14, 2009 at 10:24 am
The woman and the clothes and the photo are all just breathtaking.
April 14, 2009 at 10:45 am
looooove the cardy

April 14, 2009 at 11:10 am
Wow she looks amazing!
April 14, 2009 at 12:12 pm

April 14, 2009 at 12:15 pm
… zen master…
April 14, 2009 at 12:50 pm
OMG this woman is stunning. LOOOOVE the hair. I can see what people are saying about the skirt echoing the hair, and I agree, but I still don’t like skirts of that length. Still, a marvelous look. Would love to see inside her closet. Bet she also mixes it up with much sleeker looks. Marvellous! I wonder who does her hair. :)
pretty kitty publishing
April 14, 2009 at 1:32 pm
Did you notice her little socks peaking out of her flats? Lovely.
April 14, 2009 at 2:12 pm
Looks so comfy…Amazing.
April 14, 2009 at 2:22 pm
I think the shoes might be Marc Jacobs Collection Fall 08– the little socks which some commentors have notice is actually the velvet lining of the shoes that is meant to be seen?
April 14, 2009 at 3:11 pm
gorgeous. she has an intuition for simple soft black lines.
eloise in berlin
April 14, 2009 at 3:12 pm
She looks classy and comfortable – elegantly but discreetly styled. I Love a good cardy, and she’s wearing it perfectly.
April 14, 2009 at 3:32 pm
love this look!
April 14, 2009 at 3:33 pm
A perfect combination of traditional and modern. A reminder of that skintight is not always necessary (if ever).
April 14, 2009 at 3:41 pm
a special lady, but she reminds me a bit of a nun. Great haircut!
April 14, 2009 at 4:03 pm
All the people talking about how the clothes don’t “flatter” her clearly have a quite limited expectation of what cl1othes are meant to do for the wearer… here she is not flattered, per se, but there is something dramatic and poised about her silhouette, which is far more exciting.
I think I will take from this look a reminder to sometimes wear things that don’t always make me look taller/slimmer for the sake of the pure drama of it!
April 14, 2009 at 4:44 pm
Luv the hair. She is so gorgeous. However, there are three of us viewing and we, “oohed” and “ahhhed” until we scrolled down to see the way long skirt. You lost us. Love the pic.
April 14, 2009 at 6:01 pm
A true beauty. Amazing hair, sorry… i know im supposed to notice the clothes. But that hair!
April 14, 2009 at 8:15 pm
What a beautiful woman. Love her style!
April 14, 2009 at 8:17 pm
so austere- beautiful.
April 14, 2009 at 8:58 pm
She’s a knockout, I’d love to meet her….
April 14, 2009 at 10:18 pm
This woman, she possesses that type of beauty and presence that is ethereal, transcendent, and timeless. She is a muse– the type of beauty that inspires fashion rather than follow it.
And the stark and graphic lines of her clothes, hair, and stance so beautifully striking against that warm terracotta background. Once in awhile sir, you give us something quite special! Thank you.
April 14, 2009 at 10:32 pm
brethtaking beauty.Lovely hair…
April 14, 2009 at 10:39 pm
the outfit has too many layers/is too baggy…and what happened to her hands?
cool hair though
April 14, 2009 at 10:40 pm
this is the single most beautiful picture you’ve taken this year! and she is such a beautiful person!
April 14, 2009 at 11:16 pm
April 14, 2009 at 11:23 pm
This is SUCH a cool look (and photo too)….I was lucky enough to travel to Tokyo last October, so to me (and anyone who’s ever traveled there ?)….this is a common, hyper-cool look seen on the street!

April 15, 2009 at 4:27 pm
As an Asian(Chinese)woman myself, I think it’s a very good example of traditional and chic style combination. Just love it!
April 16, 2009 at 12:11 am

Great proportion and shaping with each piece – very very hard to do well.
April 16, 2009 at 10:07 am
This is perfect. Best shot I’ve seen in months.
April 16, 2009 at 11:33 am
Very cool shot and an equally cool outfit. Could never in my wildest dreams imagine wearing something with even the slightest similarity to that.
April 16, 2009 at 2:05 pm
She is beautiful!
April 16, 2009 at 9:34 pm
what lots of people seem to not take into account is that there are other issues at work in the sartorial world than dressing to optimize the illusion of a tall/svelte body. There are cultural issues of modesty that don’t have to be dispensed with in order to be fashionable. This woman is a perfect example of this – she is exquisite!
We could all learn a lesson on subtlety from her…
AND THAT HAIR!!!!
April 16, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Looks like it’s a doubled skirt or something.
April 17, 2009 at 5:50 am
I think she’s managed to get everything perfect.
I agree with sillyfilly in that she looks like she could be a dancer with the way she holds herself.
I wonder what her other outfits are like?
April 19, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Oh my god. She looks so beautiful. It’s breathtaking. No doubt about her wonderful beauty.
April 19, 2009 at 1:54 pm
April 20, 2009 at 1:24 am
just beautiful, her pose and style is similar to images one expects to see in a gallery.
April 20, 2009 at 9:24 am
gorgeous.. she is very beautiful :))
April 21, 2009 at 10:40 am
the angles of her gaze, her hair, her skirt, and her stance make it for me.
April 21, 2009 at 1:49 pm
love the hair!
April 22, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Lovely! But I think if I wore this, I’d look like a loaf of bread. :(
April 23, 2009 at 2:43 am
I like the shoes.
April 23, 2009 at 3:13 am
it’s her sweeping left foot and the warm red bricks behind her that transform confirm this outfit’s magical expression of taste
May 16, 2009 at 9:36 am
love the shapes, the volume and the flow. the contrasting balance of firmness and fragility. i imagine that she is petite, yet she doesn’t let the outfit (or the grgeous haircut) swallow her. and maybe it’s the photograph, but the detached confidence is almost rebelliously holistic.
May 17, 2009 at 3:08 pm
i LOVE the hair, how it curves and hugs her face..
she looks amazing
May 17, 2009 at 6:29 pm
May 23, 2009 at 5:57 pm
everything about this picture is glorious.
August 4, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Sometimes the simplest and most understated clothes are the most beautiful. What a striking pose.

November 4, 2009 at 12:41 am
I think this outfit looks fabulous on her, but most people wouldn't be able to wear it and look good.
Her hair is so cute!
December 16, 2012 at 1:18 pm
It’s the pose that really makes this photo out-of-this-world…somewhat literally. The hands in the cuffs and the elegant foot conjures up the image of a geisha for me (or, what little I know from made-for-US movies regarding geishas). At any rate, she makes me think of another time and place…
