This is one of the most interesting shots I would have to say because his beauty doesn’t just come out and strike you its very subtle. He has great lines. He just looks so sad. Love the emotion of this shot.
I agree, he is incredibly beautiful. he looks like a renaissance sculpture or if he’s just stepped out of a painting by Botticelli. thanks for seeing and posting this, Sart.
He’s definitley got something about him, and agree that it’s a beautiful shot. But to be honest, Great outfit if he’s just on his way to/from studio, but not so much for every day walking about?
He IS beautiful in an ethereal way. I do like the hair very much. Captivating photos. Now this is how you do minimal deconstruction, without trying too hard.
i am in love with this photo. he’s beautiful and his outfit is so cool. this is one of my favorite shots. everything just works so well and he just grabs my attention.
In your comments you didn’t critique his clothes, you discussed your work methods. I don’t think it’s really fair to comment on someone’s looks. It’s ok to mention hairstyle or clothing choices but people can’t help what they were born with, you know? This comment meant for post-ers, not Sart because your remarks were appreciative and positive but I do think this is dicey territory.
I love when you post photographs with comments… it all makes sense there, and not just depends on what is established or common… Thant’s the real contribuition of the Sartorialist: the uprising of the other, the different, the alterity… divergences over mainstream. And congratulations for your 98!
Yes – totally a fantastic shot! I wonder however, is he extremely tired? He appears to be maudlin, morose, or very fatigued. I guess the life of a dancer is one of endless hours, and poverty too. These elements can wear on one’s appearance.
Is he actually a dancer? He almost looks a little skinny to be one, male dancers are pretty built…I’m mostly just curious, because even if he’s not it’s a perfect title/description. “The dancer” is exactly the essence you get looking at him. Supple and fine but totally masculine.
These photos capture something essential that I love about Melbourne and its people. I think it is the combination of physical beauty that just exists of itself (not for the sake of outside attention or glamour) and an interiority with complex shadings – you feel like it could lead you towards something interesting and vital in life.
I doubt that I am expressing myself well, but in his appearance, I find someone with a style (a way of being in the world) that is far more captivating than someone exhibiting their knowledge of the lastest fashion.
This reminds me of Prada this spring..Long tee shirt and shorts. I am a dancer too. Finding cool mes dance wear is hard. One has to improvise as this guy did.. This is so inspiring. Thanks!
OMG I KNOW HIM I WENT TO PRIMARY SCHOOL WITH HIM…i think…ADRIAN SPURIA??? he’s always had a different style to him a good one…..OMG I CANT BELIEVE THIS IS HIM!!!!!!!! WOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW IM SO JEALOUS!
This shot captures the personality that most dancers have. This guy may or may not be a dancer, but i have friends who live their lives as dancers and this shot pretty much sum some up. Comfortable “this works for me so whatever” outfit in breezy monochromatic colours.
Not all dancers are or have to be built. Most are pretty lithe..
He’s got beautiful skin and a very nice skintone. Interesting features too. I could be wrong, but he looks like he’s of part-asian descent..
never commented on your blog before..but there’s this incredible subtle beauty in this picture that is just.. very captivating. the close up..it’s almost like his separate features don’t match up, yet it seems natural and in balance at the same time. don’t know how to put it. just very amazing, thank you for that. lovely discription too in the post.
“you feel like it could lead you towards something interesting and vital in life”
I totally love what Anon 9:48 said but would add that you can find this not just in Melbourne but anywhere. It is just rare and has to do with following the ecstatic life. That’s one of the great things about the performing arts. And yes, his hands are beautiful, too.
I like your explanation of why he is compelling. Nice. Personally though, I don’t find him so. His look is too sloppy for me and his neck too wide for his features. But that’s just me – I like how subjective beauty is.
HAHA hey guys. this pic is of me lol thanks heaps for the comments i appreciate it so much. If u like u can add me on facebook my name is Adrian Spuria.

He really reminds me of Link from Zelda. Who I had the biggest crush on when I was 10. Amazing subject, amazing photo. He looks so sad and strong at the same time. Dreamy. http://www.julesb.co.uk
I absolutely agree. He is elfin and beautiful. The beautiful contours of his neck and head just make me wanna pick up some charcoal and DRAW!!! You, Mr. S, have a most wonderful eye. Your blog is a great thing… you see and appreciate how beautiful, interest, and nice people look, as opposed to only fashion and trends. In that, your blog has a great sense of honesty. Honest appreciation of beauty and intrigue in the people around us.
Thanks for the shot – this is why I view the Sartorialist! True photographic art – wow. Could be the best picture yet? He has that relaxed yet effortless Melbourne style – full of grace and inner spirit. His blk shorts bring it all together – and you know what, he wouldn't have even tried!
Funny. just as i was looking at this and before reading your write up… i thought to myself wow he is so beautiful and intriguing. a special uniqueness for sure.
I've seen him around! He looks amazing every time I see him out on chapel street in melbourne. He is also quite an amazing dancer, having seen him do a group dance once.
I agree with your comments Scott. A perfect character to photograph. I also love his style and colour choice. He obviously chooses comfortable yet purposeful clothing to suit the demands of his dance-related lifestyle. He has a beautiful and unique look to him and looks perfectly serene and at ease with his place in life.
This guy is so THERE. So present. He is an alien … a beautiful alien. He SO looks like an elf…..and it's obvious he has style no matter what he wears….I love it when people shine THROUGH the clothing they have on. You captured his grace and his melancholy perfectly. :) Inspiring.

Absolutely gorgeous. He's a young St. Sebastian (no, not the singer.)
I wish he'd ditch the sorts, though. I understand the motivation, but the long shirt does it well enough.
Little black book is fantastic.

Contemporary dancer? ;-)x L

I've seen him around! He looks amazing every time I see him out on chapel street in melbourne. He is also quite an amazing dancer, having seen him do a group dance once.
Pretty awesome to see him here!
