The Reading List….Moments Preserved By Irving Penn

irvingpennThis is the first real great collection of Irving Penn’s work in one book. I’ve always wanted to own it and I finally found a copy in good condition at a good price at my favorite bookstore in Paris, Comptoir de l’Image (post on the bookstore here).

Depending on what you mean when you say “a good price”, you were very lucky; this book is out of print and accordingly rare and expensive.

I think he is my favourite photographer. Vogue is not the same without him. I have torn out Vogue pages of his in a file that I was just looking through. There is a gorgeous one of a young model wearing a black Micky Mouse lace mask. It is quintessentially glamorous. I was thinking of putting it in a frame.

I saw an exhibit in Venice last Dec. Wonderful mix from his career.
