Steve McCurry launched a new book this summer with Phaidon, Steve McCurry: The Iconic Photographs Limited Edition. It’s great, the images are huge and beautiful, and it comes with a print. It’s a little expensive, but really incredible.
At the Phaidon website he is also doing a series of 1-minute masterclasses, which I think are excellent resources for any aspiring photographer. Â I feel like it’s the advice I would have wanted and imagine I would give now.
And if you haven’t had a chance, check out his blog. He is one of the photographers who was at the very core of my inspiration when I started The Sartorialist.

Hey Scott,
The link to Steve McCurry’s blog is broken. I think you need an “h” before the whole address. It came up as “ttp://” in my browser.
Thanks for this post–his work is amazing.

WEll, Steve McCurry is world class. I imagine his advice is too. Of course I don’t know anything about photography, but I remember seeing some of his stuff. War photography, but I can’t think of what war. Just that it was in Afghanistan, which doesn’t much narrow it down. It was a very impressive exhibition. I still remember it exactly.

Hello Scott!
I read your awesome blog through the livejournal platform already for 2 years. And some weeks ago I noticed that something is wrong… I don’t see your posts! Tryed to fix the RSS once more, but without success, there is no more option to read through the livejournal!
What’s up?

The first thing that catches my eye is the gun replica. Which is kind of starling because of the monk like robes the kids wear. Not exactly childhood in all its glorious innocence to my mind. But they are as cute as kittens. At least its PROBABLY a gun replica. Given the dangerous places McCurry photographs, I am not a hundred percent sure.

Thanks for sharing the masterclass info… I remember you once talking about how you wanted your book dimensions modeled after his ‘Portriats’ book. Happy to have both great books in my collection.

Thank you for sharing the exquisite photos of Steve McCurry. They were so beautiful… some heartbreaking, others made me laugh out loud… and I loved the text that went along with them. When you see photographs of such depth, you realize how much you have to be grateful for in this life. Thanks again!

How cool, sir! Hard to watch the videos at work without setting off alarm bells, but definitely during my lunch hour over at Starbuck’s bandwidth.

Dear Scott, thanks so much for the heads up Steve McCurry’s site. I took a look, some truly wonderful shots and the one of the smiling (Indian, I think) woman on the swing with the cows … SO VERY BEAUTIFUL. I will definitely be checking Steve’s site regularly from now now. B.

Yes, Mr Schulman. Steve McCurry’s work is very inspiring and perceptive, a window into places we normally would not see. It makes me want to be a better photographer.
