Valentino – Men’s Spring/Summer 2013
Valentino is very smart to get ahead of the crowd and be the first major brand to show SS13 at Pitti Uomo. I was surprised by how strong the collection was. The first collection was very good, and this collection strengthens the menswear voice that designers Maria and Pier are beginning to create.
I know it’s early, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that right now Valentino is the collection to beat.
I’ll be looking forward to a strong challenge coming up from Bottega Veneta, Dries Van Noten, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Prada.
I’m quite excited to see what the runways hold for us over the next two weeks.

The Sartorialist and Garance Doré for J. Crew
I wanted to let you know about a project that Garance and I have been working on for a few months. J. Crew asked us to travel all over the world to photograph friends and show the world just how global the J. Crew style is.
The first installment is live now at jcrew.com/helloworld, so be sure to check it out. You may notice some familiar faces!

CFDA Awards Tonight!
Tonight Garance and I receive the CFDA Eugenia Sheppard Media Award.
Even though I have known about this for a while it is so overwhelming a concept that I haven’t mentioned it because i don’t even know where to start.
To have your work recognized by your peers and industry is truly humbling.
I want to say a BIG thank you to my audience here on the blog. Â Sharing my photos and experiences has become completely addictive and I love the interaction and communication that we have created here over the last several years. Â I couldn’t have done it without you.
I’m so happy we received so many videos from all around the world  for our presentation. You’ll be on stage with us tonight!
I’ll be blogging, tweeting and instagraming as much as I can to capture todays events and share the fun with you.
Thanks again!!
(And thanks to Craig McDean who took the photo for the CFDA Awards Journal)

Re Post: On the Street….27th St., New York
Hey guys. The other day when I posted this photograph, I got an interesting comment by one of the viewers. Here’s a paraphrased version of what she said:
She mentioned that in looking at my previous posts she was, “transported to another place”. She says, “your previous posts contained something intangible, but this photo? There is nothing special in this one other then that she is skateboarding”.
I think the points that she’s making are interesting. I understand them but I don’t agree.
Because I’ve been traveling so much internationally, when I come back to New York I see the city with very fresh, clear eyes.
I see more easily what makes this city unique.
Yes, this photo is a common sight to this commenter because it’s in her own backyard. Â However, you can’t take a photo like this in Paris, Milan, Morocco or Tokyo. Â Those cities might have some skate culture but not with the authenticity and pervasiveness that we have in New York. Â This photo might not transport the commenter but it does transport the readers of those cities. Â So many times I’ve heard Garance look at one of my shots and say “that’s soooo New York”. Â To me, this is one of those “so New York” shots.
I love how travel opens my eyes to other places and cultures but it also shakes me out of the day to day numbness of seeing my own culture and how special it can be.
