All the Pretty Photographers
![]()
![]()
This past fashion season I noticed how photography has become THE art of choice for all the prettiest young women of fashion. Â (And of course I think Garance is the epitome of this movement.)
I won’t try to explain why this is happening, but this week all the 8 PM posts will document this trend.

On the Street….From My Bike, Paris
I love how his studded belt has worn through his t-shirt. Â That’s commitment to a look!
It’s so interesting, the effect clothes have on each other. Â It can make pieces uniquely yours because they are the result of your specific lifestyle. Â If great style is a reflection of the person, than to me this is a great expression of personal style.

On the Scene….Mr. Marzotto, Paris
This top shot is all about the fan as a men’s accessory (not just for Karl anymore!).
In the shot below, look at Mr. Marzotto’s reflection in the mirror. Â It’s like suit porn. Â I think a half-inch (minimum) of shirt collar showing over the jacket is so refined. Â Super subtle touches like that separate the men from the boys.

On the Street…Angelo’s Commitment, Paris
I love Angelo’s commitment to his beard and bow ties.  I mean, I don’t want to speak too soon, but – I think he is one of those guys I’ll be shooting for years to come. It will be fascinating to watch the evolution of his style, simply because he takes it so seriously and remains slightly left of center; it is always very much his own look.

The X Effect
At the Peter Pilotto show I was struck by the visual impact of the “x effect” that he incorporated into several of his dresses. Â As you can see in the pictures above, this design detail draws the eye in from both the hips and shoulders to give the appearance of an even more narrow waist. Â In short – it makes you look ten pounds lighter!
Later in Milan, I saw the effect in real life on a young lady before the Marni show.  As you can see, the draping of the print creates a vanishing point that enhances the slimming “x effect.”

On the Street….Color Story, Paris
I never thought I’d have Bill Cunningham and George Cortina in the same fashion post, but here you go.
By the way – Bill Cunningham New York is now available through iTunes.  It’s a must-see.

L’HĂ´tel Thoumieux
This past fashion week in Paris we stayed at a great hotel, the HĂ´tel Thoumieux.  Garance did a post about it, and I would feel selfish if I didn’t share it with you.
Personally, my favorite elements were the fantastic Brasserie and the super-highly-rated Gastronomique. Â I could only enjoy those two incredible places knowing they had promised that next time I visit, there will be a gym in the hotel – which I personally really needed to work off my foie gras hangover!!
Next time you are in Paris, you should look this place up.

On the Street….Short Over Long, Paris
![]()
I love this idea of short over long; it’s such a funny proportion, but funny in a good way. Â (You’ll see the men’s version later today.)
I’m so happy to be back in New York with fashion week done.  I have a lot of great images to share; you’ll be seeing them over the next two weeks.  I also have a lot of great posts – shopping ideas, book  suggestions, more fashion show coverage – in mind that I’m excited to publish.
It’s finally fall here in New York, and I can’t wait to start capturing it on our streets.
