Style Profile…Dianna Lunt, NYC
Job?
Assistant Fashion Editor, Big Man Magazine and Freelance Stylist
Style icons
I love Lou Dillon’s quirky, messy chic and the styling of Emmanuelle Alt and Marie Chaix
Describe your personal style
Shambolic
I build my daily look around
An emotion
Personal Style quirk?
Prairie tomboy meets Parisian chic
Favorite designers?
Martin Margiela, Marni, Dries Van Noten, Jil Sander, YSL
The first thing I look at in another Sartorialist’s outfit …
Balance of silhouette and the pairing of fabric textures.
Favorite stores?
Opening Ceremony is great and I love Maryam Nassir Zadeh in the Lower East Side, if I had a store that’s what I’d want it to look like. Their presentation and store merchandising is so colorful, well thought out and inspiring, not at all stuffy.
Most stylish city?
Paris, because the women have a sense of effortlessness to their style and they’re not afraid to wear color. I also love Copenhagen’s streetwear.
Favorite vacation spot?
I don’t really take vacations, but I used to live in Florence and I miss it all the time. I’m hoping to go back very soon…
Favorite cocktail?
I don’t drink cocktails but I love a good whiskey on the rocks.
Favorite place to search for inspiration?
Vintage markets in Paris
I spend my weekends?
At brunch with my boyfriend, and reading magazines in the bathtub.

San Francisco Book Signing at Paul Smith
I took this picture out of the window behind my signing table. It must have taken these people another 2 hours before they got to the front of the line.

On the Street….The Driver, San Francisco

One of my favorite encounters on this book tour was my driver in San Francisco.
As you can see he was very elegant and practically oozed self-confidence, dignity and pride in his work.
I love people who show pride in their work, regardless of the job.
This man’s car was spotless, his shoes were shined and he knew exactly where he was going. He wasn’t dressed like that for me, he had no idea who I was, this was just another day and just another ride done in his own stylish way.
I’ve said this so many times before, and recently in the intro of my book. Even though this blog is about fashion I don’t really think about fashion when I look at this photo. I think about how he is communicating his sense of pride and self-worth; not by how expensive his clothes are but by how he wears his clothes, his posture and his politeness. This man is pure style.

On the Street….Commerce St., Dallas

I was so impressed by all of the cool people I met on last weeks book tour.
Young, old, rich, less than rich.
In D.C. they kept saying, “Wow, I’ve never seen so many fashionable people in one place in D.C.”
My only regret is that I didn’t get a chance to shoot more of the people at the events.
However, I did find two people that may end up working for me in the future (I always have my eye open, even if it’s not behind a camera).
We will be announcing some new tour dates shortly, and we are looking for the right partners to host an event in Boston and Philadelphia soon (while Garance is in town).
I can say right now that it looks like I will be taking my first trip to Madrid and Barcelona very, very, soon.
Thanks again everyone!

Cary Grant, Les images d’une vie
Great new book on the style of Cary Grant.
This is easily one of my all-time favorite shots of Cary Grant. This is the look of effortless chic.

Verizon Global Gentleman or the Sainthood of Garance Dore

I don’t know if any of you have seen these Verizon Global Gentleman ads that began running in GQ back in September.
It was a really fun project that Garance and I shot over the Summer in Milan, Paris, Australia and London.
I have to admit I’m happy with how the shots turned out… but poor Garance.
No photographer ever wants to shoot another photographer. Let alone your boyfriend who is a photographer.
I couldn’t help it, just as she was about to shoot I would keep saying… is that the angle you’re going to take???….. back light, really??…. does my hair make my face look fat???
Local florists became quite wealthy after each of these shots.
Sorry G.

The Armani Question
Two weeks ago Mr. Armani spoke for the first time about his recent serious illness.
I really thought Mr. Armani had made a deal with the devil, because it seemed he would never give up the reins of his company.
But now he has cut back his working hours and will soon have to seriously consider his design replacement.
So, this raises the question, who should replace Mr. Armani? Who could replace Mr. Armani?
Jil Sander seems almost too obvious.
Tomas Maier? That could be great.
Personally I would love to see Alber Elbaz move over from Lanvin. He does such a great job with that label – but just imagine what he could do with the money, retail network and infrastructure that Mr. Armani has so skillfully set up over the last few years.
So, who do you think should take over for Mr. Armani?

Behind the Scenes – Photo Shoot For L’Officiel Hommes
The timing couldn’t have been better/the timing couldn’t have been worse.
The timing was great because yesterday it was pouring rain almost all day, so why not stay inside and shoot or be shot.
The timing couldn’t have been worse because fashion month has caught up with both Garance and me. We have both been sick with a nasty head cold that just won’t leave. Also I have just about exhausted my wardrobe that was supposed to last for the entire three week trip.
It was great to watch Milan work, and have a little time to get to know each other. We did a small interview afterwards and Milan asked some of the most thoughtful questions about my work that I have heard in a long time.
The issue comes out in early December. I will make sure to post it when it is ready.

Garance & Me at Colette

Garance and I will be at Colette today from 3 to 4pm, to sign t-shirts from her Gap collaboration and meet our readers.
If you are in the area please stop by, we look forward to meeting you!
PS. You’ve gotta read Garance’s post today, it’s so funny (especially the part about Anna Wintour).

On the Street…Covered Buttons, Paris
George always looks great. I hate the phrase “classic with a twist,” but George seems to be a master at that.
Here he wears a very classic DB from Anderson & Sheppard – but insisted on covered buttons for the jacket.
Such a small detail, but it completely changes the feel of the look – more like Men’s Couture.

On the Street…Camera Crush, Paris
Alessandra Colombo is quite possibly the coolest young lady I have met all year. The key to this look is the perfect, perfect fit of her shirt, of course it’s custom-made.

Vogue Pelle- The Fashionistas
The first thing I did when I hit Milan was go buy the new Italian Vogue Pelle.
I shot a story for them over the Summer, and I had been dying to see it in print. The lovely Giovanna Battaglia set up the whole shoot, it was really great to work with her.
Actually one, of the high points of my career came when Franca Sozzani stopped me outside of the Men’s Prada show and told me how much she liked this story.
