Usually the clothes provide the hard edges and the hair the soft edges. I love how Vika has turned that concept upside down

I love everything here, the stripe with the check – I’m not sure if it even “goes together” but when it looks this good why even ask.

I also really love the club collar shirt, so often they come off looking costumey but here it looks so natural.

I love seeing pleated pants again , especially when they are worn this elegantly.

I have been up every night till 2 or 3am working on images since I arrived in Milan. As you can imagine I am pretty exhausted but the story that goes with this image is very cute so I will try to write it tonight or on the train to Paris.

Love the shape of this jacket and really love the purple color.

I have no idea what type of watch Mr. Zegna is wearing but I think it would be so cool if it was an Ironman running watch.

This is Mr.Zegna first appearance on The Sartorialist but it will hopefully not be his last.

I know this photo is over at Men.Style.com but it is easily my favorite look of the season.

I love the formality of the DB with the worn jeans and velvet slippers. The shape of the DB is perfect.

This is a really inspiring image to me, not because I would want to wear the exact same thing – but it makes me think of how I would do it slightly differently and with the clothes I already have in my closet.

I have a navy cashmere single-breasted jacket, similarly worn jeans and brown slip-on loafers – I already own these elements, I just haven’t put them together quite this way.

It sounds so simple, but when you have a busy life you often just grab the looks that you already know work for you. Little visual reminders like this help me to mentally reorganize my closet.

I am seeing a lot of these oversized jackets this fashion week.

The Man just goes and goes and goes

I hope you recognize Fay from this London shot I took back in May – because I didn’t.
When I took this shot I had no idea that the bowtie-collar-dickie was an accessory.
To me, that is truly inventive and a great, low-cost way to change up lots of different looks.

Now I am curious to see what she has up her sleeve for the rest of the week (no pressure Fay)

New York Fashion Week starts today so starting tomorrow I will posting quite a bit more than I did in August.

Let the fun begin.

Like I mentioned yesterday, the streets of New York are overflowing with young ladies in print dresses. Usually the fit of these dresses are quite good- but the prints, unfortunately, are often very unfortunate.

It had reached a point where I really started to believe that maybe a young lady couldn’t buy a great print without spending a lot of money.

However yesterday I saw this young woman leaving the Mac store on 14th with her new purchases. The fit of the dress is obviously great, but I was really struck by the beauty and sophistication of the print. My faith in Summer dresses was renewed when she told me she bought the dress at a flea market for $20.

This is one of those times when I ponder the question of quality vs. appearance.

I’m guessing that for $20 the dress is not silk. I didn’t inspect it super closely but the stitching is probably fine. I’m trying to imagine what you could do to the dress technically to justify a higher price, because visually it looks perfect.

For example, if the dress had a higher stitches-per-inch ratio would that make any difference to you?

If the dress was all silk would you happily pay more? It is easy and chic to say yes – but lets be honest, a dress like this is not an investment piece. If you can get two Summers out of it then it has served you well.

So I guess the question is: “Is quality always worth paying for if the item functions fine the way it is?” (I think ‘functions’ is the key word there).

I have to say that I like how his tattoos match the color of his shorts.
I wonder if he does that all the time?

This dress is perfectly simple and breezy for a hot Summer day.

For me, the difference between her dress and the multitudes of other dresses on the street right now is that little bit of gold metallic sparkle in the stripe. It gave the fabric the little bit of depth that worked perfectly with/against the sheerness of the weave. This fabric is pretty common and not usually one of my favorites but here it looked so great.

I thought the pushed-up sleeves conversation was very interesting but here is an even more taboo-ish concept for Americans – jacket on the shoulders

I have seen a few young Americans doing it lately but it still seems so specific to the Italians.

Why don’t women do it more often?
