On the Street…Mr. Marzotto, Milan

This is all about his seriously shaped coat.
I hope photos like this will finally put an end to a dreaded sentence heard in shopping malls all across America. “buy it one size bigger so you can wear a sweater under it!”

I loath that sentence

It Shouldn’t Work…But It Does, Paris

Graphic, Pastels,, Utilitarian, Florals – it takes a talent to make such disparate elements look so harmonious together

From a response in the comments section
“again, for me, this is about inspiration – maybe you see mixing just two of the four elements in a new way and that in itself is worth it to me

I rarely think of mixing graphic patterns with a pastels but I might remember this when I am starting to put together early spring outfits – maybe a houndstooth jkt with a pastel tie, cream pants and suede monk strap shoes

that is what I see when I look at this from my perspective.”

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

Last nights party was soooo great – thanks to everyone who was there in body or spirit.

It was great to meet so many readers of this blog ( and what a well-dressed crowd!!)

I didn’t bring my camera because I was hoping it would be just too crazy to shoot – and it was.

But James Danziger took a few snaps and you can take a look at The Year in Pictures

We both thought it was pretty crazy that we would run into each other again in almost the exact spot as we did last February.
Of course the fact that Colette is just down the street from this spot has a big reason for this happy coincidence

March GQ Preview – James Danziger

I didn’t realize how many cool, chic guys I know that ride their bikes to work almost every day, so I made my March GQ page about it.

Above is super chic James Danziger who runs the gallery that will host my first solo exhibit starting tomorrow!!

Anyway, please note that James includes a helmet in is bike rides.
Apparently the other day he did have a serious spill on his bike and he feels that the helmet really saved him from some major damage. (how dare he do that right before my show!!)

James has also recently begun a great blog The Year in Pictures that gives his unique insight into the world of fine art photography.
It’s funny when you get to know someone who has a blog because you learn a whole new side of that person that might take years to bring up in normal conversation.

Dont forget my opening night party for the exhibit

The party is open to the public and I hope to see/meet a lot of you there.

I Should Give Up Now..

because i don’t think it gets much better than this.

You may or may not like his stylistic choices but the execution of his choices are flawless.

I bet his sweater is bespoke because the length is perfect.

The flower, come on, thats great.

I have this gentleman’s contact info now so we can soon learn
more about his sartorial secrets

let not spend this post trying to nitpick any little flaws, lets just enjoy
seeing something so well done.

ps check out how perfectly the plaids match at his shoulder/sleeve
that is the mark of a true craftsman.

Here Comes The Storm!!! Hello From Florence

This is one of those simple but directional looks that can change the way you look at menswear.

Take careful notice of

- double pleated pants – when was the last time you saw pleats look so cool

-Printed tie – it has been ages since I have even considered a printed tie (only woven for me) but this “unconstructed, loosely folded tie looks incredible

-modified spread-collar shirt – again, ages since i liked a shirt that didn’t have a more dramatic cut-away collar.

This is why designers and buyers travel the world to find inspiration that will shift the look of fashion

On the Street….Puffer with Bungee, Soho

I ran into my friend Paul this weekend and I couldn’t stop looking at how well his puffer coat fit at the waist.
The secret was that he pulled the bungee cord tight at the waist

I have a Jil Sander puffer coat that I love but it doesn’t have that bungee cord in the bottom.
Unless I wear it with slim jeans I end up feeling too square.

lesson learned – no puffer without the bungee (sounds like something Kanye would rap about)

Calm Before the Storm

I feel like I am in the calm before the storm.

Monday I leave for Europe to cover the mens shows in Florence, Milan and Paris.
Return to New York and immediately host two parties for the opening of my first solo exhibit at Danziger Projects.
All while negotiating to shoot two ad campaigns and finalizing the contract on a dream project that I am dying to announce on this blog.
(not to mention that before I go, I have to be the subject of a fashion shoot for a really cool magazine – I am more than nervous to be in front of the camera this time)

All of this coupled with the fact that it has been extremely cold in NYC has led to a very tough shooting week.

I always knew that it would happen. All the things piling-up and feeling the temptation to shoot things that I might not really love but feel I should shoot just to have something new on the blog.

I am proud that I continue to resist that urge and that my readership is willing to give me the freedom to shoot what I (and you) can be passionate and proud of!

I take your vote of confidence very sincerely and it really bums me out when I don’t have a few new shots every day. I feel good though knowing that you will return the next day ready to have a lively and fun conversation about style and fashion.

Next Tuesday will begin three to four months of intense shooting all around the world. I am tired just thinking about it but I can’t wait to get going and take you guys along for the ride!

(ps – if you are in the area please stop by the opening night party for my exhibit at Danziger Project on January 22nd from 6-8pm, – I feel like this is really a party for us more than just an opening!)

I am very pleased to announce that I have begun a monthly page for the Japanese magazine Men’s Ex.

Time To Break Out The Boots

I saw these at Freemans Sporting Club last Spring but by the time I found them it was too late in the season to wear them.

I think they look like the lovechild of a moccasin and a pair of Air Jordans.

Has anyone worn these?
What do I need to know?

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year everyone and thanks for such a great 2007

I am so ready for 2008. I took a little time off from shooting over the holidays but most of that time was spent thinking about how to make the blog even better in 2008.
I think I have come up with some really great and very achievable ideas that I will begin implementing soon.

I also have a major announcement that once the paperwork is all signed I will be very pleased to announce.

As you know I try to keep my eyes and ears open to your requests (such as larger images and separate window for comments) so if you get a chance let me know if you see any little things that could make the blog even better – I can’t promise anything but I am open for suggestions.

My original idea for the “shopping guide” was way too ambitious but I have retooled my thinking and hope to have something up and running by April 2007 (kidding)

I also want to do some more of the Style Profiles that I did when starting the blog.

Above is a scanned postcard that I bought at Rizzoli of Montgomery Clift shot by Ida Wyman.
I just love this shot.
It seems every December I read articles about how to make the tux “new and modern”. I don’t think we need to make it modern I think we need to remember how we use to wear a tux.
